Vol Profile: Nick Crowe
Vol Profile: You played on the Junior USA team, and you've played internationally, were there many differences in the game?
Crowe: "Just the opportunity to get to play with that caliber of competition and just international competition is that much better and it was getting me ready for college and SEC baseball. It will probably be about the same, facing the top notch pitching, it will probably be similar."
Vol Profile: What are your expectations for the 2002 season?
Crowe: "As a team, I really do want to win the National Championship, that's just a big dream that everyone on this team has, and individually I hope that I can solidify myself as second baseman, and lead off batter to help the team. Just get on base, steal some bases, score some runs, and contribute to the team."
Vol Profile: Your older brother Brandon plays here. Did that have a lot of influence on where you wanted to play your college baseball?
Crowe: "Yes, the opportunity to get to play with him again, that chance was one of the reasons that I came here. It's just disappointing that he's out for the year, but next year I'll get to play with him and I feel like I made the right choice coming here with the great players we have here and the opportunity we have here to go out and win."
Vol Profile: Do the guys on the team treat you any differently?
Crowe: "Brandon's nickname is 'Pup' so I got the little "Puppy" nickname, it goes along with the territory."
Vol Profile: Is there anyone that you look to for motivation?
Crowe: "Javi (Herrera) probably, he's talked to me about how to relax, how to adjust to college baseball, and he's a team leader and he's helped me out the most, but throughout the whole team everyone is sticking with me and just waiting for me to get adjusted to this type of baseball and being away from home is different, but I'll get used to it."
Vol Profile: What's your favorite thing about UT?
Crowe: "The opportunity I have been given to prolong my baseball career at
Tennessee and the chance to play professional baseball."
Vol Profile: Do you have any certain goals you've set for yourself this season?
Crowe: "I want to do well, but I'm not going to set myself too high because I know it's a big adjustment. I really just want to help the team win as many games as we can."
Vol Profile: Do you have any mental preparation or superstition you go through before each game?
Crowe: "I'm not really too superstitious, I like to get my wrists taped, just because they are a little weak and it makes me feel comfortable. To mentally prepare myself I just envision the game before it happens, and talk to the players before it starts to get a feel for the game."
