TENNESSEE FINISHES SEVENTH AT LADY GAMECOCK

The third round of the 2002 Lady Gamecock Classic turned out to be worse than the second, as the fourth-ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vol golf team fired a 312 on the par 72, 5,996-yard University Club golf course and finished in seventh place. The 312 was the fifth-highest round of the day and when added to the first two-round totals of 295 and 307, UT ended with a 914. Third-ranked Duke won the event with an 874.
The lone bright spot for the Lady Vols was senior All-American Young-A Yang (Tae-Gu City, South Korea) who finished tied for fifth with a 220 (71-75-74). The top-ten finish was the fourth of the season for Yang and 25th of her career. Freshman Jessica Shepley (Oakville, Ont.) carded a third-round 78 and finished tied for 24th with a 226. Senior Tina Schneeberger (WR-Neustadt, Austria) tied for 39th with a total of 234 based upon scores of 77, 76 and 81. Sophomore Tai Perry (Unionville, Pa.) recorded her third-straight 79 and placed 48th with a 237. Fellow sophomore Mary Jan Fernandez (Hendersonville, Nev.) had a three-day total of 241(76-81-84) and was in 54th. Sophomore Ryan Kirk (Hixson, Tenn.) played as an individual and completed her second collegiate tournament in 79th with a 262.
Tennessee will now take two days off to travel to Hawaii before it plays in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Tournament, March 19-20.
