SPECIAL PARKING NOTE
If you are coming to the women's game only, keep in mind that if you are likely to encounter exiting traffic or parking lots that are fairly full. The best advice is to seek parking in the high-rise garage across from the varsity tennis courts on 25th Avenue South (Highland and 25th). You may also want to try the surface lots off Natchez Trace, across from the outdoor running track. A shuttle will eliminate your walk to the gym from here. Also, please remember that the gym must be cleared entirely between games, even if you have a ticket for the second game. Your cooperation in making a prompt exit will be a great help to those who need to prepare for the second game.

TONIGHT'S GAME
The #2-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols travel mid-state as the SEC league-leaders visiting the #8/6-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville on Feb. 2. It's "Tennessee Day" in the state capital as the Vols take on the Commodores earlier in the afternoon before the Lady Vols face the 'Dores in the evening on ESPN2.
IN OUR LAST GAME
The #2-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers kicked their running game up a notch and dealt the #12/15-ranked Florida Lady Gators an 86-66 defeat on Jan. 31 in Knoxville. UT coach Pat Summitt employed her ninth different line-up of the season in search of a combo that would get the team off to a fast start - she may have found it against the Lady Gators. UT jumped out to a 7-0 lead (17:08) and then a 16-5 advantage (14:48) after a Tasha Butts' trey. Florida then went on a 15-4 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 20-all with 9:44 to play in the first half. It was the Lady Vols' turn to make a run and a 15-2 spurt over three minutes gave UT a 35-22 lead at 6:34. Tennessee took its largest lead of the first half after a Gwen Jackson fastbreak lay-up with 1:52 to play in the first half produced a 41-26 Lady Vol lead. UT took a 43-31 advantage into the locker room at the half behind 10 points from junior guard Kara Lawson. In the second stanza it was all Lady Vols as three consecutive Lawson buckets found Tennessee ahead 61-37 with 12:01 to play. Gwen Jackson gave UT its largest lead of the second half with 7:28 to play connecting on a putback for a 33-point bulge, 78-45. For the game, five Lady Vols reached double-figures led by Lawson's 18-points. Also in extra digits were Gwen Jackson with 17 points off the bench (6-7 FG and 5-5 FT), senior Michelle Snow with a 16 point and 10 rebound double-double, rookie Loree Moore with 11 points and a game high eight assists, and Butts with 10 points, also off the bench. UT connected on 47% of their field goals, 36% three-pointers and a healthy 77% from the charity stripe. Tennessee controlled the boards with a 44-34 advantage. UT committed 17 turnovers on 11 Florida steals while forcing 20 miscues on 13 UT thefts. The Lady Vols reserves tallied 35 points while the Lady Gator bench scored just 10 points.
OUR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
After tonight's game with #8/6 Vanderbilt, the Tennessee Lady Vols will return home to face a red hot Arkansas Lady Razorback team in Knoxville on Feb. 7. Next Sunday, Feb. 10, UT travels to #19/18 Georgia.

This season, Tennessee will take on teams from 11 different conferences.
LADY VOLS ON TELEVISION
Seventeen Lady Vol regular season games will be on television this year. UT is 11-1 thus far on TV. Upcoming games on TV include Vanderbilt (ESPN2) and Georgia (FOX SNS).
ON THIS DAY
On Feb. 2, the Lady Vols have produced an 11-1 record all-time. The Lady Vols are 8-1 at home, 3-0 away and have a 0-0 slate at neutral sites. UT's most recent game on this day was in 2000 when Tennessee defeated Connecticut, 72-71, in Storrs, Conn.
LOOKING BACK
Last year at this time, the Lady Vols were 22-1 overall, 8-0 in the SEC and had just defeated Connecticut, 92-88, in Knoxville, Tenn.
2001-02 TENNESSEE LADY VOL OPPONENTS
The 2001-02 Tennessee Lady Vols will play 18 games versus ranked teams out of a total of 27 regular season opponents. Six other UT opponents have received votes in either the Associated Press or USA TODAY/ESPN top 25 polls. Only three opponents on this season's schedule have not been ranked at all. Furthermore, the Lady Vols will have faced six of the top 10 teams (in seven games) of the current WBCA/Summerville RPI top 10. It's no wonder that the Lady Vols lead the nation in strength of schedule and RPI.

SERIES TIDBITS
UT has played Vandy 21 times since 1994. No other team has recorded as many back-to-back games with the Lady Vols in single seasons since UT played Old Dominion home-and-home and in the postseason (practically every year) in the late 1970s and early 80s.
42nd GAME?
There will be some discrepancy in the game notes as to the records for UT and Vandy in the all-time series. The Lady Vols records show that the first game between the two teams was played on Jan. 18, 1976 in Nashville. Tennessee won the contest, 96-27. Counting that contest, UT has a 36-5 lead over the Commodores in the all-time series.
KEY TIDBIT IN THE SERIES
Until the loss in the 2001 SEC Tournament, the Lady Vols had won 14 consecutive games against Vandy. Previously, the last Commodore victory was in 1995 at the SEC Tournament in Chattanooga, where VU triumphed in the championship game, 67-61.
GAME REPORT 20 VANDERBILT
Vanderbilt (19-5 overall, 5-3 SEC). The Commodores, the NCAAs leader in field goal percentage, connected on just 33% of their second half shots in falling to Arkansas, 67-57 on Jan. 31. The Commodores are led in scoring by Chantelle Anderson (20.3 ppg/66% FG Pct.) and Zuzana Klimesova (16.3 ppg).

LAST TIME VERSUS VANDERBILT
The #1 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers fell in the SEC Tournament for the first time in 11 games dropping a disappointing 77-74 lackluster performance against the #15 Vanderbilt Commodores. The Lady Vols had hoped to add four consecutive SEC Tournament titles to go along with four consecutive regular season championships. After both teams traded buckets in the first five minutes of the ballgame, UT took off on a 12-1 run over a three-minute span to provide a comfortable, 22-10 lead with 11:24 to play in the first half. With Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt subbing as many as five at a time, UT still led by a dozen, 31-19, after a Kyra Elzy runner with 5:37 showing. UT extended the lead by as many as 13 points in the opening stanza after Kristen "Ace" Clement was credited with a driving lay-up with 3:00 to go (UT 36-23). That would end UT's scoring for the half as Vandy capitalized on the drought to shave the lead to six at intermission, 36-30, and carried that momentum into the second half. UT did manage to take as many as two 10-point leads in the second stanza (last 44-34 at 17:45). But frequent second half UT subs did not get the job done and Vandy climbed back into the game with 13:49 to go tied at 44-all. UT grabbed a brief four-point lead, 52-48, with eight minutes to play but Vandy grabbed the lead back with 6:09 to go (56-54). In the final five minutes VU led by as many as eight (70-62 with 52.4 to go) while UT managed to cut it to three twice (74-71 at 18.9) and (77-74 at 1.7). On the night, only Semeka Randall and Michelle Snow reached double-figures with 15 points each. Snow led with nine rebounds. UT committed only 10 miscues while forcing Vandy into 21 turnovers. UT shot just .417 FG while VU nailed .558. UT was 10-13 from the line while the Vandy hit 24-30. UT's bench managed 19 points. Tennessee tallied 22-second chance points and 16 off of turnovers.

AP POLL NOTES
The Associated Press women's Top 25 basketball poll released on Jan. 1, 2001, marked the 400th appearance by the Tennessee Lady Vols. Since the poll was started in 1976, UT has failed to appear in just 14 polls through the years. Currently, UT has been ranked in 295 consecutive polls and since the 1986-87 season, the Lady Vols have been in the top 10 for all but one poll. UT is the only team to have been ranked every year for the last 26 years in the AP poll. UT has appeared at least once per season over the poll's history.
2001: UT VS. VANDY IN NASHVILLE
The #3 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers faced its first stiff road challenge since the injury to Tamika Catchings and passed with high marks taking a 70-64 SEC decision from #16/17 Vanderbilt on Jan. 23, 2001 in Nashville, Tenn. The ending of the contest was highlighted by a Michelle Snow signature dunk with seven ticks left on the clock that brought the partisan Big Orange crowd to its collective feet in the Memorial Gymnasium on the Vanderbilt campus. Snow became just the second woman (behind West Virginia's Georgeann Wells) to register two dunks in a season. UT jumped on Vanderbilt from the onset and raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first three minutes. The Commodores roared back to take the lead at the 10:26 mark, 17-15. With Snow and rookie Ashley Robinson dominating the inside, UT regained the lead and went up by four points (23-19) with six minutes to go before the half. After some cold shooting, the Lady Vols took a 25-24 lead at the break. In the second stanza, it was all Vandy for the first 10 minutes. The Commodores led by six, 42-36, before Tennessee went to work. A flurry of points by Semeka Randall, Gwen Jackson and a big trey by April McDivitt grabbed the lead back to UT. By the time Kara Lawson hit a trey with 5:19 to go, it was 55-45 Lady Vols. A couple of VU treys trimmed UT's advantage but Snow's dunk was the exclamation point on the contest. On the evening, Randall led five Lady Vols in double-figures with 16 points. Also in extra digits were Snow and Robinson with a dozen and Lawson and Jackson with 10 points each. Snow led the rebounding honors with 11boards. UT connected on 46% of its field goals and hit just 4-7 (57%) from the charity stripe. The Lady Vols were out-rebounded by Vandy, 36-35. Tennessee's bench outscored Vandy's reserves, 22-15. UT scored 20 points off of VU's 19 miscues.
AVERAGE SCORE
The average score of all UT-Vandy games is 79.8 (Tennessee) and 65.5 (Vanderbilt).
UT PLAYER AVERAGES IN GAMES VS. VANDERBILT
Three Lady Vols have averaged double-figure games against Vanderbilt during their careers led by senior center Michelle Snow with 14.0 ppg. Others averaging double-figure games includes Kara Lawson 12.0 ppg and Ashley Robinson at 10.7 ppg. The best rebounder versus the Commodores is Snow with 6.8 rpg.
IN COMMON
Outside of the SEC play, UT and Vandy share top-ranked Connecticut as a common opponent in 2001-02. UConn defeated UT, 86-72, in Knoxville and handled Vanderbilt, 69-50, in Hartford.
CLOSE CALLS IN KNOXVILLE
The closest Vanderbilt has come to claiming a win in Knoxville was a two-point heartbreaker in 1984. Other near misses include a three-point loss in 1996 and a four-point shortcoming on Feb. 22, 2001.
ONCE, TWICE, THREE TIMES...
Last season marked the sixth time that Tennessee and Vanderbilt met three times in a season.
THE SEC
Tennessee has a 295-49 record all-time versus the SEC. Mississippi State is the only team who has never recorded a win over UT. Florida and Arkansas have the next fewest victories at 1 each.
SIX SELL-OUTS -- IT MUST BE THE ORANGE
Another school has joined the ranks of producing a sold-out arena when the Lady Vols came to call during the 2001-02 season as Vanderbilt announced an advance sell-out (14,100) on Jan. 30 for their Feb. 2 game with the Lady Vols. Previously, South Carolina announced an advance sell-out on Jan. 15 for its Jan. 17 game with the Lady Vols. A total of 12,168 clicked through the turnstiles at Carolina Coliseum for the game. Earlier this season, the game with DePaul attracted an over-capacity crowd of 3,025. Prior to that, Stanford made the announcement on Monday, Dec. 10 (six days before tip-off) that the game with Tennessee was an advance sell-out (7,391). UT's game with George Washington (Nov. 27) was also an advance sell-out (5,252) while the Lady Vols and UT-Chattanooga attracted the largest crowd ever to watch the Mocs play, 9,113. And of course, the Tennessee vs. Connecticut game in Knoxville attracted the largest crowd in collegiate women's basketball history with 24,611 in attendance. The game was also an advance sell-out.
RANKINGS IN THE SERIES
Typically, going into the Tennessee versus Vanderbilt match-up, the Lady Vols have entered the contest as the higher ranked team. In fact, in the last 22 meetings dating back to Jan.30, 1993, the Commodores have been ranked higher just three times. Going into that memorable oversold game on the Nashville campus in 1993, Vanderbilt was ranked number one while the Lady Vols were a step behind at #2.
GOING OVER 200,000 TONIGHT
With at least 10,098 fans in attendance tonight against Vanderbilt, the Lady Vols will go over the 200,000 mark in total attendance for the eighth consecutive season.

MEMORIAL FLASHBACK 2001: SNOW THREW DOWN
Lady Vol junior post Michelle Snow became only the second women's player to record two dunks in a season when she threw one down against Vanderbilt in Nashville on Jan. 23, 2001. Snow's jam came with seven seconds remaining in a game which the Lady Vols led, 68-61, prior to the slam. In a designed play to either a post or a guard, Kara Lawson took the all out on Vandy's baseline and rifled a 60-foot Peyton Manning-type pass to Snow who was breaking to the basket from halfcourt. Snow deposited the two-handed slam, sent the crowd into a frenzy and then was whistled for a technical foul for lingering on the rim too long.
SUMMITT CLASSIFIEDS-- STARTERS WANTED
Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt has started nine different line-ups in the 19 games played thus far. In the last five games she has started five different line-ups. The only common denominator in all 19 games has been junior guard Kara Lawson who has started every contest.
WOW -- REGULAR SEASON STARTING TO WIND DOWN
After tonight's game against Vanderbilt, the Lady Vols will have just seven games left to play in the regular season over the next 20 days - or one game every 2.75 days. The contests are split with four games at home and three on the road - and three games versus ranked teams and four games versus unranked teams. Texas (Feb. 12) is the only non-conference foe remaining.
SUMMITT GOES FOR WIN #778 TONIGHT
The victory over Florida was Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt's 777th of her 28-year career. Now with 777 wins, she currently ranks eighth among all coaches (men's or women's) in all-time victories. She is just behind Bob Knight and Jody Conradt. The only woman Summitt trails behind is Conradt of the University of Texas who started this season in her 33rd year of coaching with 766 wins. Conradt is 14-5 on the year and has 780 victories.

UT'S LAST LOSS TO AN UNRANKED TEAM...?
When is the last time Tennessee lost to an unranked team? That would have been to Auburn on Mar. 2, 1997 at the SEC Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
37 CONSECUTIVE SEC WINS
The Tennessee Lady Vols, the 2001 Southeastern Conference Champs with a perfect 14-0 record, opened 2002 SEC play with an 88-64 win at Florida on Jan. 3. UT now has a 14-game SEC road-winning streak. The last time UT lost an SEC road game was to Georgia, 78-51, on Jan. 17, 2000. With the victory over Florida, Tennessee currently has won 37 consecutive SEC games at home. The last SEC loss at home was to Georgia on Dec. 8, 1996, 94-93 (OT).
GOT A LITTLE ROAD STREAK
The last time UT lost a regular season game on the road was on Jan. 17, 2000, at Georgia, 78-51, since then the team has won 26 consecutive road games.
UT GOES OVER 100,000
The Tennessee Lady Vols have gone over the 100,000 mark in home attendance for the eighth consecutive season with at least four more games to play. Last season, Tennessee attracted 232,646 patrons to 15 home games.
LADY VOLS TOP THE RPI
The latest WBCA/Summerville RPI has the Lady Vols on top with an RPI of .740. Following Tennessee is: 2. UConn (.684), 3. Oklahoma (.676), 4. Duke (.661) and 5. Vanderbilt (.657). Other SEC schools rank: 9. South Carolina (.650), 14. Florida .630, 17. Georgia .621, 27. Auburn .602, 28. LSU .601, 46. Miss. State .581, 52. Arkansas .574, 55. Alabama .569, 84. Ole Miss .547, 118. Kentucky .526.
LADY VOLS HAVE THE NATION'S BEST SCHEDULE
The latest WBCA/Summerville Strength of Schedule rating has the Lady Vols on top with an SS score of .726. The top five also includes: 2. Texas Tech .660, 3. Texas .653, 4. Notre Dame .6314 and 5. Iowa State .6311. The number one ranked Connecticut Huskies are 26th in schedule strength with a .591 score. Vanderbilt, tonight's opponent, has a strength of schedule rating of 8.
THE ANNUAL ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE
The Lady Vols have picked right up where they left off the last couple of seasons leading the nation in women's basketball attendance. As of Jan. 28, UT is in first place averaging 14,866 while Texas Tech is in second place with 13,391. Rounding out the top five are: 3. Connecticut 12,437, 4. Iowa State 10,086 and 5. New Mexico 8,435. The crowd of 24,611 at the Tennessee-Connecticut game on Jan. 5, 2002, broke the women's basketball collegiate record for largest attendance. The previous record was 24,597 set on Jan. 3, 1998, when UT defeated UConn, 84-69, in Knoxville.
SNOW ADDS ONE TO HER NCAA RECORD DUNK TOTAL
When 6'5" Lady Vol senior center Michelle Snow threw down a one-handed dunk with 1:51 left in the game at #8 South Carolina on Jan. 17, it was the third dunk of her career and the first of the season. As a junior, Snow recorded dunks against Illinois (in Maui) and Vanderbilt (in Nashville) of the two-handed slamming variety. Her latest dunk was her first one-handed jam. Lady Vol fans are still waiting to see Snow dunk in Thompson-Boling Arena.
LONGEST STREAK
The win over South Carolina extended Tennessee's streak over the Lady Gamecocks to 26 games. It's the longest winning streak UT has over an opponent. Lady Vol senior Amanda Canon was the only Lady Vol born (12-8-79) the last time South Carolina defeated the Lady Vols (1-23-80).
TRIBUTE TO DAVE THOMAS
Clara, of Wendy's hamburger commercial fame, barked out "Where's the Beef?" Recently, UT coach Pat Summitt has been barking, "where's the offense?" In the four games prior to the win at South Carolina (beginning with the loss to Connecticut), the Lady Vols scored in the 70's - averaging 74.0 ppg -- about 16 points below their average before the skid. Entering the game with top-ranked Connecticut on Jan. 5, the Lady Vols had been averaging 90.7 ppg while giving up 63.9 ppg. The team was shooting .478 from the field, .687 from the free throw line and .385 from the three-point arc. In the four anemic games since the loss to UConn, the Lady Vols were shooting .458 FG, .372 3FG but raised their free throw percentage to .711.
JUST ONE MORE NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENT
The Feb. 12th game with #14 Texas is Tennessee's final non-conference game of the season. The Lady Vols have compiled an 11-1 record this season over non-conference foes. With the exception of the game with Texas, the Lady Vols will be on a steady diet of Southeastern Conference games leading up to the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 28-Mar. 3.
JACKSON'S JERSEY RETIRED
On Tues., Jan. 22, Lady Vol rookie Brittany Jackson's number 25 jersey was retired at Bradley Central H.S. Jackson was a high school All-America and recipient of the prestigious Class 3-AAA Miss Tennessee basketball award as a senior last year. The Bearettes' number 25 jersey has a long history in Brittany's family. Jackson's aunt, Rita Hannah, first wore the #25 jersey at BCHS and it was retired following her playing days. The jersey came out of retirement so that Brittany's mom, Liz Hannah (Jackson) could wear it. It was retired once again after Liz's outstanding high school career. Years later, #25 became Brittany's number at BCHS. It was retired and now hangs alongside the #25 jersies of her mom, Liz and her aunt Rita in the rafters of the Bradley Central gym. Oh, number 25 has been unretired once again. Brittany's, younger sister Lindsay, a BCHS freshman now sports #25.
DIGGING THRU THE RECORDS
When all five UT starters in the Jan. 20th game versus Alabama failed to score in double-figures, it raised the question - "When was the last time the Lady Vols starters failed to produce at least one player in double-figures?" Lady Vol Media Relations graduate assistant Brian Davis found the answer 510 games and 15 years ago. On Mar. 19, 1987, no Lady Vol starter scored in double-figures in a 66-58 victory over Virginia in the NCAA Tournament. The only UT player in double-digits was Bridgette Gordon with 21 points off the bench.
GOT THE SMARTS
Four Lady Vols earned Dean's List honors in the 2001 Fall semester: Amanda Canon - 3.19 - Nursing, Kara Lawson - 3.54 - Finance, Courtney McDaniel - 3.38 - Psychology and April McDivitt - 3.13 - Education.
IT'S VUJA DE
Last year, the Lady Vols were rolling along with an 11-0 overall record before the #1 Connecticut Huskies dropped the Lady Vols, 81-76, on Dec. 30, 2000 in Hartford, Conn. This year, Tennessee was also 11-0 before facing the Huskies on Jan. 5, 2002 and suffering an 86-72 setback. Better check the schedule next year before penciling in the Huskies in the 12th game of the season.
UCONN GOT 86
When Connecticut lit-up the scoreboard for 86 points against Tennessee on Jan. 5. 2002, it didn't make the Lady Vol top 10 list for most points scored by an opponent. However, it stacks right up there with the most points scored on a Lady Vol team in recent years. Last season, Connecticut tallied 88 points versus Tennessee in Knoxville on Feb. 1, 2001. However, the Lady Vols scored 92 points to win that contest. On Mar. 1, 1997, LSU rang-up 99 points on the Lady Vols in the SEC Tournament. Alas, Tennessee scored 100 points to claim an overtime victory. The last time a team scored at least 86 points and defeated UT was on Feb. 24, 1997 when Louisiana Tech burned UT for 98 points in a 98-80 romp in Ruston.
ICE CAPADES
The Tennessee Lady Vols have compiled a 17-7 all-time record when they play over ice. This season, UT is 2-0 over ice having collected wins at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Ga., home to the NHL's Thrashers, and the Conte Forum at Boston College, home of the reigning NCAA hockey champs - the BC Eagles.
GOT OUR 300TH VICTORY AGAINST A RANKED TEAM
The Tennessee Lady Vols recorded their 300th all-time win versus a ranked team with the victory over fifth-ranked Louisiana Tech, 90-75, on Nov. 23, 2001. The Lady Vols now stand 310-125 (.710) overall against ranked foes since the polls began in 1976.
STOP THIEF
Kara Lawson eclipsed 100 career thefts against Florida.
BEST SHOOTERS VS. UT
Connecticut holds the distinction of having the best field goal percentage against the Lady Vols this season connecting on 57% of their shots.
LADY VOLS AT 100%
The contest versus Duke in the ACC/SEC Shootout marked the first time in the 2001-02 season that the Tennessee Lady Vol basketball team was at full-strength. The game against #15/16 Florida was the first time that the entire 14-woman roster was employed in a game. Thirteen players scored in the win.
"THE BIG CITIES TOUR"
The Tennessee Lady Vols were on the road for eight consecutive games and 43 days traveling to Washington, D.C., Orlando, Chestnut Hill, Mass., Palo Alto, Calif., Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis and Gainesville, Fla., before finally returning home on Jan. 5, 2002, to face top-ranked Connecticut in Thompson-Boling Arena. Tennessee began its month of traveling on the "Big Cities Tour" at the end of November. UT first visited Washington, D.C., where the Lady Vols defeated #21/20 George Washington Univ., 88-57, in a sold-out Charles E. Smith Center on Nov. 27. Tennessee returned home briefly before traveling to Orlando, Fla., for the Honda Elite Four on Dec. 2 at Disney World and hung a 93-56 loss on the #8/9 N.C. State Wolfpack on ESPN. UT then traveled "back east" for a hard-fought 75-66 victory over BIG EAST foe Boston College. After an 11-day break for final exams, the Lady Vols pulled out a big win at #6/5 Stanford, 68-62, in front of a sold-out Maples Pavilion crowd. A sold-out house in Chicago saw the Lady Vols defeat DePaul, 80-66 on stop number five on Dec. 19. On Dec. 27, the Lady Vols faced rival #9 Duke in the ACC/SEC Shootout in the Philips Arena in Atlanta and came away with an impressive 89-68 victory despite 26 miscues. Stop number seven found UT in Memphis where the Lady Vols dropped the University of Memphis, 92-66. The final game of the road trip was the SEC opener in Gainesville that resulted in an 88-64 win over the #15/16 Florida Lady Gators. Tennessee finished with a 8-0 record on the "Big Cities Tour."
FEBRUARY SUCCESS
The Tennessee Lady Vols have enjoyed a great deal of success in the month of February over the years. UT has produced a 203-28 all-time record during the first and busiest month of the year. The Lady Vols are 106-9 at home, 74-14 away and 23-5 at neutral sites.
JUST THE FIFTH TIME
The Lady Vols entered the January portion of their schedule undefeated for only the fifth time in Coach Pat Summitt's 28-years at the helm. With the victory over Memphis on Dec. 29, UT had a 10-0 record. The last time a Lady Vol team began January undefeated was the perfect 1997-98 season when the team went 39-0.
THE CHALLENGE
The Lady Vols participated in their "first challenge" format with the ACC and recorded an 89-68 win over Duke. Previously, the Lady Vols had appeared as a part of the SEC/Big 10 Challenge. The Lady Vols won games versus Illinois and Purdue in those Challenges.
WELCOME BACK ASHLEY
UT sophomore center Ashley Robinson appeared on the court for the first time this season in the game against DePaul. In 13 minutes of action, she scored eight points, grabbed a rebound and dished out an assist. She did not post a turnover. Robinson suffered a torn ACL on June 30, 2001, and had reconstructive surgery on July 12, 2001.
CONGRATS K-LAW
Junior guard Kara Lawson joined the Lady Vol 1,000 career point club when she hit a lay-up with 5:15 to go in UT's game at DePaul on Dec. 19. Lawson becomes the 26th member of the Lady Vols' 1000-point club.
THE IRON PILLS MUST HAVE WORKED
Prior to UT's win at DePaul, the Lady Vols rebounding had been extremely anemic but particularly so on the offensive end. UT was out-rebounded by both Boston College (37-35) and Stanford (42-33) and managed a scant total of just 15 offensive rebounds out of their 72 missed shots in both games (just 19%). Against DePaul, things picked up as UT ruled the boards, 50-36 and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds. In the Lady Vols most recent games versus Duke and Memphis, the team collected a total of 33 offensive boards.
PRESTO-CHANGE-O
Lady Vol fans might be confused when they see #43 step onto the court this season. Sophomore Ashley Robinson is #43, right? Well, Robinson was #43 as a rookie but switched to her favorite number, 33, after Kristen "Ace" Clement graduated last season. Rookie Shyra Ely will don number 43 this season.
ROOKIES REPRESENT
Freshman forward Shyra Ely was joined in the starting line-up for the Boston College game by fellow rookie, Loree Moore who started at point guard.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE
Junior forward Gwen Jackson turned in the first Lady Vol double-double of the season with a 14-point and 12-rebound performance against #8/9 N.C. State. Fellow junior Kara Lawson followed up with one of her own versus DePaul tossing in 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds (career high) for her first career double-double. Against Duke, two players doubled-up with Jackson recording a 20-point and 10-rebound night while rookie Shyra Ely turned in an 11-point and 10-rebound outing.
ELITE COMPANY
When Pat Summitt started freshman forward Shyra Ely against Tennessee-Chattanooga on Nov. 16, 2001, it marked only the ninth time in her coaching career that a freshman started her very first game at Tennessee. The list of opening day rookie starters: Ashley Robinson 2000, Gwen Jackson 1999, Semeka Randall 1997, Kyra Elzy 1996, Chamique Holdsclaw 1995, Tiffani Johnson 1994, Bridgette Gordon and Sheila Frost 1985.
158 WINS IN OUR LAST 169 GAMES
The Lady Vols have won an amazing 158 games in their last 169 basketball contests (.932 winning percentage) spanning five seasons (starting with NCAA Tournament play in 1997). UT was 6-0 in the 1997 NCAA Tourney, ran the table with a 39-0 record in 1997-98, turned in a 31-3 worksheet in 1998-99, a 33-4 mark during the 1999-2000 season, a 31-3 mark last season and an 18-1 mark in 2001-02.
LADY VOL STREAKS
The last time the Lady Vols lost at home was against Connecticut, 86-72, on Jan. 5, 2002 -- since then, the team has won five games. The last time UT lost on the road was on Jan. 17, 2000, at Georgia, 78-51, since then the team has won 26 consecutive road games. The last time the Lady Vols lost on a neutral court was against Xavier, 80-65, in the 2001 NCAA Mideast Regional semifinals on Mar. 24, 2001. Since then, UT has won two games on a neutral court.
WHO'S THAT LADY (VOL)?
The thousands of Lady Vol fans who were in attendance at The McKenzie Arena on Nov. 16th - opening night of the 2001-02 season - in Chattanooga, witnessed the debut of another outstanding Tennessee rookie class. Shyra Ely became a rare Lady Vol rookie starter playing in place of injured junior Gwen Jackson - Ely scored a team-leading 16 points and grabbed six offensive boards. Point guard Loree Moore logged 24 minutes and added 15 points and snagged five steals. Forward Michelle Munoz calmly nailed a trey for her first bucket and finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Finally, Brittany Jackson scored seven points to go along with three steals. In all, the rookie crew was responsible for 51 of UT's 97 points and 20 of the Lady Vols' 54 rebounds.
THE POLLING PLACE
In the first Associated Press and USA TODAY/ESPN polls of the year on Nov. 5, the Tennessee Lady Vols began the 2001-02 season as the number three (AP) and number two (USA TODAY/ESPN) ranked team in the country. It marked the sixth time that UT has started the season in the second spot in at least one of the polls.
AT SEC MEDIA DAYS
The Lady Vols were declared the top vote getters to nab the SEC crown at SEC Media Days held on Nov.1 in Birmingham, Ala. Additionally, Kara Lawson and Gwen Jackson earned spots on the preseason All-SEC Team. Vanderbilt was predicted to finish second to UT in the SEC this season.
BROGDON TO JOIN WBHOF
Former Lady Vol Olympian and All-American Cindy Brogdon will be inducted into the Class of 2002 in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Brogdon, who was an All-American and Olympian at Tennessee from 1977-79, will be inducted as a player. She becomes the fifth University of Tennessee product to be enshrined in the WBHOF joining Pat Summitt and former Lady Vol players Trish Roberts, Cindy Noble-Hauserman and Holly Warlick.
ORIGINAL NAISMITH LIST
Tennessee placed senior Michelle Snow and juniors Kara Lawson and Gwen Jackson on the initial ballot for the Naismith Player of the Year Award. players in the nation.
LADY VOL SIGNEES
Tennessee signed two outstanding players during the 2001 early signing period-- Shanna Zolman, a 5-9 guard from Syracuse, Ind. (Wawasee H.S.) and Tye'sha Fluker, a 6-5 center from Pasadena, Calif. (John Muir H.S.). Entering her senior season, Zolman averaged 32.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 4.5 apg and 5.0 spg as a high school All-American. Fluker, also a high school All-America, tossed in over 26 points and grabbed 18.7 rpg as a junior last year.
200 WINS IN THE BAG
Tennessee recorded its 200th win in Thompson-Boling Arena when the Lady Vols defeated the University of Southern California Women of Troy on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, 106-66. UT has now amassed a 206-10 record since the Orange and White moved into the Thompson-Boling Arena to start the 1987-88 season 14-years ago. Along the way, the Lady Vols have produced eight flawless home records in 1988-89 (15-0), 1991-92 (14-0), 1992-93 (13-0), 1993-94 (15-0), 1994-95 (15-0), 1997-98 (16-0), 1998-99 (14-0) and 2000-01 (15-0). UT also registered an NCAA record 69-game home court-winning streak from Feb. 1, 1991thru Jan. 2, 1996.
NOTEWORTHY
The Lady Vols won their 100th game in Thompson-Boling Arena with the victory over Stanford on 12-1-94.
UT suffered two losses the first year in the new arena (12-2 overall), a 97-78 defeat to Texas on Dec. 9, 1987 and a 71-68 loss to Auburn exactly one month later on Jan. 9, 1988.
The Lady Vols enjoyed a flawless home slate in 1988-89 with a 15-0 record. UT almost duplicated the record a year later but dropped a one-point decision to Louisiana Tech, 59-58 (again on Dec. 9), and turned in a 14-1 showing in 1989-90.
In 1990-91, the Lady Vols (15-1 at home) went down in defeat to Georgia, 81-74 on Jan. 28, 1991. From that point, until UT lost to Connecticut on Jan. 6, 1996 (59-53), the Lady Vols won a NCAA record 69 consecutive games.
In 1996-97, the Lady Vols went 13-2 at home after losing back-to-back games to Georgia and Stanford in December. It marked the first time the team had lost consecutive games in the Arena.
In 1999-2000, UT was 13-2 with losses to Louisiana Tech and Connecticut.
156 OF 162 AT HOME
UT has won 156 of their last 162 games in Thompson-Boling Arena dating back to 2-1-91. UT's six losses were to Louisiana Tech, UConn (three times), Stanford, and Georgia (OT).

TBA STREAK BROKEN AT 26 GAMES
Tennessee's 26-game home court winning streak in Thompson-Boling Arena was broken on Jan. 5, 2002 by Connecticut. It ranked as the fourth longest home court-winning streak in Lady Vol history.
IN OVERTIME
The Lady Vols are 20-10 all-time in overtime games. The most OT games in a season was 1996-97, when the Lady Vols were 3-1 in overtime contests losing to Georgia, 94-93, and defeating Texas, 68-65, Vanderbilt, 92-79 and LSU, 100-99. Tennessee's 21 points in the extra stanza against Vanderbilt on Jan.19, 1997, was the most ever scored by the Lady Vols in a single overtime. The previous high-water mark was 18 points versus Colorado on Dec. 20, 1993.
100 POINT GAMES
Since 1974, the Lady Vols have gone over the century mark 67 times - and once so far in the 2001-02 season. Noteworthy: Tennessee went over 100 points in an NCAA playoff game for the first time ever in 1993-94 with the win over North Carolina A&T, 111-37. The 1987-88 team hit triple digits in seven games leading the NCAA.
