Watts Featured Speaker at Thursday's UT Football Banquet

Congressman and former Oklahoma star quarterback J.C. Watts will be the featured speaker Thursday at the annual UT Football Banquet at the University Center.
Watts, 45, did not seek re-election last month to the U.S. House of Representatives and is stepping down after serving Oklahoma's fourth district for eight years. He has been chairman of the House Republican Conference, the fourth-highest position in House, since 1998 and is a 1981 graduate from Oklahoma with a B.A. in journalism.
While playing for the Sooners, Watts quarterbacked them to two consecutive Big Eight championships and Orange Bowl victories. He was voted Most Valuable Player in the 1980 and 1981 Orange Bowl wins over Florida State. From 1981-86, he started for Ottawa and Toronto in the Canadian Football League and was voted Most Valuable Player of the Grey Cup, the CFL's Super Bowl, his rookie season. Watts was inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Honor in 1992.
The banquet starts at 7 p.m. in the UC ballroom. Tickets are $25 can be purchased through the Knoxville Quarterback Club.
