Following contact with the surgical consultants in Dallas, Texas, UT head team physician Dr. Val Gene Iven passed along word Wednesday that Vols wide receiver Kelley Washington is recovering well from his Tuesday surgery relating to the concussion he sustained during the UT-Georgia game Oct. 12.
"Surgery went as expected," Dr. Iven said. "Kelley is doing well in recovery." Dr. Iven added that Dr. Drew Dossett, who performed the surgery, expects Kelley to have a productive NFL career.
Washington, who should be released from the hospital later this week, wishes to thank his family, all supportive UT fans, friends, coaches and UT teammates for their prayers, interest and concerns.
He was a preseason All-America choice this year by some media outlets but played in only four games while battling a number of injuries. The Stephens City, Va., native finished his sophomore year with 23 catches for 443 yards and one touchdown after hauling in 64 receptions for 1,010 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman.
