TENNNESSEE DOMINATES ILLINOIS FOR SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON

The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer tennis team completes a sweep of its opening weekend competition on Sunday by taking a 7-0 triumph from Illinois in the Goodfriend Tennis Center. On Friday, UT blanked Purdue. The Lady Vols did not drop a single set in either match.
Junior Vilmarie Castellvi led the team by racing off court two with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Cynthia Goulet. The win was her seventh consecutive singles triumph, dating back to Nov. 10, 2001. Castellvi also teamed with senior Agnes Wiski in doubles to tally the tilt that clinched the doubles point. The 45th rated pairing dealt Eva Choe and Tiffany Eklov an 8-3 setback.
Alison Ojeda returned to the Orange and White lineup and contributed a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 51 Jenny McGaffigan at No. 1 singles. The senior also combined with Crystal Cleveland for an 8-2 doubles win at the No. 1 position in doubles, downing Goulet and Kate Boomershine.
Wiski clinched the match for the Lady Vols for the second consecutive contest, defeating Choe by the scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Wiski's win at the fourth spot came after Castellvi (No. 2) and senior Kim Gates (No.3) made quick work of their opponents. Gates had a solid outing, dealing Eklov a 6-2, 6-2 loss and joined with sophomore Brooke Cordell to pick up the No. 3 doubles match. Over McGaffigan and Michelle Webb.
Freshmen Majen Immink and Breanna Kray added an exclamation point on the outing by capturing straight set wins at No. 5 and 6. Kray had two set-points against her before pulling off a 6-2, 7-6(2) triumph.
The Lady Vols, 2-0, will return to action on Feb. 2 as they visit No. 15 Wake Forest. Last season, Tennessee escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Demon Deacons.
