The Duncanville, Texas, native, who led the Lady Vols in both scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg) before suffering a season-ending ACL injury to her right knee during Tennessee's 66-59 victory over Mississippi State on Jan. 15, has been selected alongside some elite company. Nominees for the Honda Award for basketball, which will be bestowed April 13, 2001, include injured Connecticut All-American Svetlana Abrosimova, NCAA women's career scoring leader Jackie Stiles of Southwest Missouri State and Ruth Riley of Notre Dame, the National Player of the Year.
Catchings hopes to join former UT stars Bridgette Gordon, Honda Sports Award winner for basketball in 1989, and Chamique Holdsclaw, Honda Broderick Cup recipient (1998) and two-time Honda Sports Award winner for basketball (1997, 1998), as Lady Vol Honda Award honorees.
The 6'1" forward completed her Lady Vol career third on the all-time Lady Vol scoring and rebounding lists with 2,113 points and 1,004 rebounds, respectively. She also finished second all-time in steals with 311 and blocked shots by tallying 140.
