April 03, 2001 | Women's Basketball
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - University of Tennessee guard Semeka Randall was chosen as the Most Valuable Player of Saturday's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge held in St. Louis in conjunction with the Women's Final Four.
The Cleveland, Ohio, native pumped in 17 points to lead all scorers as her Jazz squad defeated the Blues, 74-66, in front of 2,800 spectators at the Washington University Fieldhouse. The 5'10" Randall also posted six rebounds and three steals. For the game, her Jazz team shot a blistering 53% from the field and controlled the boards 38-28.
The game, which featured the top Division I college seniors as well as the players of the year from Division II, III and the NAIA, served as a farewell showcase for Randall and stars such as Kelly and Coco Miller of Georgia, who posted 11 and 10 points, respectively, Duke's Georgia Schweitzer (six rebounds and five assists), Louisiana State guard Marie Ferdinand (named MVP for the Blues squad) and Xavier's Nicole Levandusky (nine points). Eight members of the participating Final Four teams (Purdue, Connecticut, Notre Dame and Southwest Missouri State) were selected for the game but did not participate.
Randall, a two-time Kodak All-American and a four time All-SEC selection, concluded her illustrious career in fourth on the Lady Vols' all-time scoring list with 1,915 points and fifth all-time in steals with 286.
