KNOXVILLE (March 29) -- Sophomore offensive tackle Michael Munoz will miss the rest of spring practice because of an injury to his left knee.
Munoz will undergo a surgical arthroscopic evaluation on his left knee on Tuesday, April 3. UT team orthopedist Dr. William Youmans will perform the procedure. The purpose will be to determine extent of articular cartilage damage to the knee.

| Michael Munoz, who earned freshman All-America honors last season, will miss the remainder of spring practice following knee surgery next week. |
UT coach Phillip Fulmer said it is important to evaluate the injury immediately and get Munoz on the proper path to recovery.
Our only concern at this point is to do the evaluation on Michaels knee and see where we are, Fulmer said. After the evaluation it will be up to Michael, his parents and Dr. Youmans to determine the next step. Our only interest is Michaels well being.
The 6-6, 310-pound Munoz started all 12 games at right tackle last season. He became the first Tennessee true freshman offensive lineman since 1981 to be in the starting lineup for the season opener. Munoz, a native of Mason, Ohio, is the son of NFL Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz. The younger Munoz was a freshman All-America pick by rivals.com and The Sporting News in 2000.
Munoz is one of six Vol offensive linemen with extensive starting experience entering spring practice. Left offensive tackle Reggie Coleman also started all 12 games last season, while offensive guard Anthony Herrera started nine games and Scott Wells made 10 starts at center. Senior co-captain Fred Weary started just two games last season before being sidelined with an ankle injury, but started all 12 games in 1999. Junior Will Ofenheusle started five games at offensive guard last season.
