Lady Vol Tennis Dominates Alabama in 6-1 Road-Win

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer tennis team extended its winning streak to nine matches on Friday with a 6-1 victory over No. 42 Alabama. The road win improves the Lady Vols' record to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in Southeastern Conference.
Co-head coaches Mike Patrick and Sonia Hahn-Patrick's squad open the match taking the doubles point as Kim Gates and Vilmarie Castellvi served Emma Berard and Dominique Glinzler an 8-1 loss at No. 1 doubles and Alison Ojeda and Crystal Cleveland came out a head of Stefanie Leung and Jenny Ketchum (8-3) at No. 2. Juniors Dana Noel and Agnes Wiski fell at No. 3 doubles in a close 9-8 decision.
In singles play, Cleveland won her sixth straight match at No. 5 in a three-set victory, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1. Ojeda, Gates, Castellvi and Wiski all picked up their match in straight sets. Ojeda defeated Berard, 7-6, 6-4. Gates got the better of Selia Mathew, 6-3, 6-3, while Castellvi dominated Ketchum, 6-0, 6-3. Wiski was triumphant over Weyli Chang, 6-4, 6-4. The only Lady Vol to fall was freshman Brooke Cordell at the No. 6 slot.
Up next, the Orange and White will invade Baton Rouge, La. for another SEC battle on Sunday. The Lady Vols and LSU Tigers are set to square off at 2:30 p.m. CT.
