Catchings' Surgery Successful
February 06, 2001 | Women's Basketball
University of Tennessee Lady Vol basketball All-American Tamika Catchings underwent surgery on Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Catchings suffered the injury three weeks ago in UT's victory over Mississippi State on Jan. 15 in Knoxville.
Dr. William T. Youmans, Lady Vol team orthopedic surgeon, repaired both Catchings' ACL and her medial meniscus. "Tamika underwent a successful surgery today. Everything went great...very smooth," said Jenny Moshak, UT Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine.
At the time of her injury, Catchings was a leading candidate for Naismith Player of the Year, an honor she won as a junior.
