Slay, Yarbrough Lead Vols to 79-62 Win at SMU

DALLAS -- Tennessee's Ron Slay and Vincent Yarbrough combined for 55 points to lead the Vols to a 79-62 win at SMU. Slay scored 23, while Yarbrough tallied 22 as UT improves to 4-2 on the season.
Slay connected on 8-of-12 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds. Yarbrough also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out five assists in his 100th career start at Tennessee. Jon Higgins scored a season-high 12 points and dished out six assists. Damon Hancock led the Mustangs with 15 points.
Tennessee jumped out to a 46-34 advantage by halftime after hitting 57 percent from the field (17-of-30), including 9-of-14 from three-point distance. The Vols hit a season-high 13 treys.
The Vols built an early 11-2 lead before SMU rallied to take the lead at 17-16 with 11:57 left in the first half. The Vols took the lead for good with 6:39 left in the first half on a basket by Higgins as SMU went scoreless for six minutes.
SMU never challenged in the second half.
