TONIGHT'S GAME
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols return to the road and the "Big Cities Tour" after a repacking stop in Knoxville and will take on Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The game with BC is UT's third stop on an eight-game month-long road trip.
IN OUR LAST GAME
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers traveled to Orlando, Fla. and Disney World, for the Honda Elite Classic and came away with an impressive, 93-56 win over #8/9 N.C. State on Dec. 2. State started fast and controlled the first 12 minutes of the game taking a couple of five point leads over the Lady Vols (last five point lead, 15-10 at 13:15). UT finally pulled even after a trey by Kara Lawson made it 19-19 with 8:09 to play in the first half. Over the next 7:32, the Lady Vols held N.C. State scoreless while building a 31-19 lead behind Lawson's treys, Gwen Jackson's prowling around the hoop and a scoring flurry from UT reserve Courtney McDaniel. By the time State scored with 58 seconds to go before the half, UT led by a dozen. Lawson pushed UT's halftime margin to 15 points, 36-21, after a trey with three seconds to go before the break. At the half, Lawson led UT with 13 points while Jackson, who left the game after hitting her head on the floor, tallied a dozen points and nine boards in 17 minutes. In the second half, State mounted a rally and drew to within 11 points, 44-33 with 15:39 to go, but seven unanswered points by the Lady Vols over a 30-second span extended UT's lead to 18 points with 14:13 left in the game. A McDaniel lay-up with 3:44 to go gave UT its largest lead of the game at 38 points, 87-49. On the afternoon, four Lady Vols were in double-figures led by Lawson's game high 20 points. Joining her in double-digits were Jackson with 14 points, Michelle Snow with a dozen, and McDaniel with a career high 11 points. Jackson led all rebounders with 12 boards. The key stat of the game (again) was 20 steals for the Lady Vols on 28 NCSU turnovers. Freshman reserve Loree Moore was credited with five steals while handing out six assists. The Lady Vols connected on 49% of their field goals and 41% of three-pointers. UT outrebounded State, 45-36.

OUR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
Tennessee began its month of traveling on the "Big Cities Tour" last week. UT first visited Washington, D.C., where the Lady Vols defeated #21/20 George Washington Univ., 88-57, in a sold-out Charles E. Smith Center on Nov. 27. The Lady Vols returned home briefly before traveling to Orlando, Fla., for the Honda Elite Four on Dec. 2 at Disney World and hung a 93-56 loss on the #8/9 N.C. State Wolfpack on ESPN. The Lady Vols head back east for tonight's game against Boston College and then will be off for a week due to final exams.
ONE MORE. . . THEN A BREAK FOR FINALS
After tonight's game at Boston College, the Lady Vols will be in Knoxville for a week cramming for final exams. Player interviews will be limited and the practice schedule will be altered to accommodate studying and exams.
GET THOSE BAGS PACKED
The Tennessee Lady Vols will be on the road for eight consecutive games traveling to Washington, D.C., Orlando, Chestnut Hill, Mass., Palo Alto, Calif., Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis and Gainesville, Fla., before finally returning home on Jan. 5, 2002, to face top-ranked Connecticut in Thompson-Boling Arena. Thus far, Tennessee is 2-0 on the "Big Cities Tour."
THAT'S SOME GOOD NEWS
Senior center Shalon Pillow, who injured her left knee midway through practice on Thurs., Nov. 29, has been cleared to play. Team orthopaedist Dr. William T. Youmans cleared Pillow after reading her MRI and evaluating her on Dec. 3. Pillow suffered a bone bruise to the left knee.
BUT THEN THERE'S BUTTS, TOO
Lady Vol starting guard/forward Tasha Butts underwent an MRI of her left knee on Dec. 3 to determine the cause of her knee pain. Butts' pain is a result of degenerative changes in the knee. She is cleared to play as well.

OUR LAST MEETING WITH BOSTON COLLEGE
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteer basketball team finally got into gear during the last nine minutes of their contest against the 21st ranked Boston College Eagles in Thompson-Boling Arena on Dec. 6, 2000, and came away with a 72-57 victory. BC, missing two key players, stood toe-to-toe with the Lady Vols. UT jumped out quickly to a 13-4 lead at the 14:08 mark but seemed to get complacent shortly thereafter and didn't hit a bucket from 9:32 until 6:24. By then, BC had sliced UT's lead to a single point, 19-18. The two teams headed to the locker room at the half knotted at 29-all. The Lady Vols shot a frigid .364 from both the field and the charity stripe finding the range for just 4-11 free throws. The Eagles quickly established themselves to start the second half nailing a trey on their first possession. With BC leading by three, it marked the first time in the 2000-01 season that the Lady Vols would find themselves behind in the second half. The BIG EAST visitors made a final run and tied the score at 45-all with 9:07 to play. It was at that point that UT senior All-America Tamika Catchings went to work. Three minutes later, a three-pointer from Catch gave UT an 11-point cushion with six minutes to play. On the night, three Lady Vols reached double-figures scoring led by Catchings' 16 points. Also in extra digits were Semeka Randall with 13 points and Kara Lawson with a dozen. Gwen Jackson and Michelle Snow led all UT rebounders with nine each. UT actually shot better from treyville (7-15 for .467) than from the field (.446). The Lady Vols outrebounded the Eagles, 48-31. Free throw defense limited the Lady Vols to a horriffic 7-20 (35%).
UT PLAYER AVERAGES IN GAMES VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
Kara Lawson leads the Lady Vols with an average of 12.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg in games versus BC. Senior Michelle Snow tosses in 10.5 ppg while grabbing 7.5 rpg against the Eagles. April McDivitt averages 8.0 ppg while Gwen Jackson leads on the boards with 9.0 rpg.

AP POLL NOTES
The Associated Press women's Top 25 basketball poll released on Jan. 1, 2001, marked the 400th appearance by the Tennessee Lady Vols. Currently, UT has been ranked in 286 consecutive polls and since the 1986-87 season, the Lady Vols have been in the top 10 for all but one poll. UT is the only team to have been ranked every year for the last 26 years in the AP poll. UT has appeared at least once per season over the poll's history.
LADY VOL WATCH BOX
Kara Lawson needs just 40 points to become the 26th member of the Lady Vols' 1000-point club.
BENCH INTENSITY
The Lady Vols' bench did not find a match in the N.C. State reserves. UT's bench accounted for 35 points, 12 assists and 14 steals while the Wolfpack subs added 12 points, 10 rebounds and a dozen miscues.
ROOKIES REPRESENT
Freshman forward Shyra Ely will be joined in the starting line-up for tonight's game by fellow rookie, Loree Moore.

ADDING ONE TO TV
Tonight's game at Boston College will be available on the New England Sports Network (NESN).
IS THAT ASHLEY?
A welcome sight back out on the practice floor (in the last few days) has been Ashley Robinson. The 6-5 sophomore center has been rehabbing from a torn anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee suffered on June 30. She had reconstructive surgery on July 12. Robinson could return to action around the Christmas holidays.
TONITE COULD BE 765
The victory over UT-Chattanooga was Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt's 760th of her 28-year career. With 764 wins, she currently ranks 10th among all coaches (men's or women's) in all-time victories. Summitt trails behind Jody Conradt of the University of Texas who started her 33rd year in coaching with 766 wins. Conradt is off to a 4-0 start on the year and currently has 770 victories.
145 WINS IN OUR LAST 155 GAMES
The Lady Vols have won an amazing 144 games in their last 154 basketball contests (.933 winning percentage) spanning five seasons (starting with NCAA Tournament play in 1997). UT was 6-0 in the 1997 NCAA Tourney, ran the table with a 39-0 record in 1997-98, turned in a 31-3 worksheet in 1998-99, a 33-4 mark during the 1999-2000 season, a 31-3 mark last season and a 5-0 mark in 2001-02.
LADY VOL STREAKS
The last time the Lady Vols lost at home was against Connecticut, 74-67, on Jan. 8, 2000 -- since then, the team has won 26 consecutive home games. The last time UT lost on the road was on Jan. 17, 2000, at Georgia, 78-51, since then the team has won 18 consecutive road games. The last time the Lady Vols lost on a neutral court was against Xavier, 80-65, in the 2001 NCAA Mideast Regional semifinals on Mar. 24, 2001. Since then, UT has won one game on a neutral court.
UT'S LAST LOSS TO AN UNRANKED TEAM...?
When is the last time Tennessee lost to an unranked team? That would have been to Auburn on Mar. 2, 1997 at the SEC Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
DECEMBER SUCCESS
The Tennessee Lady Vols have enjoyed a great deal of success in the month of December over the years. UT has produced a 139-38 all-time record during the 12th month of the year. The Lady Vols are 45-8 at home, 50-22 away and 44-8 at neutral sites
WHO'S THAT LADY (VOL)?
The thousands of Lady Vol fans who were in attendance at The McKenzie Arena on Nov. 16th - opening night of the 2001-02 season - in Chattanooga, witnessed the debut of another outstanding Tennessee rookie class. Shyra Ely became a rare Lady Vol rookie starter playing in place of injured junior Gwen Jackson - Ely scored a team-leading 16 points and grabbed six offensive boards. Point guard Loree Moore logged 24 minutes and added 15 points and snagged five steals. Forward Michelle Munoz calmly nailed a trey for her first bucket and finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Finally, Brittany Jackson scored seven points to go along with three steals. In all, the rookie crew was responsible for 51 of UT's 97 points and 20 of the Lady Vols' 54 rebounds.
THE POLLING PLACE
In the first Associated Press and USA TODAY/ESPN polls of the year on Nov. 5, the Tennessee Lady Vols began the 2001-02 season as the number three (AP) and number two (USA TODAY/ESPN) ranked team in the country. It marked the sixth time that UT has started the season in the second spot in at least one of the polls. This season, the Lady Vols will play 13 games against teams who are ranked in the current Top 25 polls.
IS IT TOUGH ENOUGH?
The Lady Vols 2001-02 schedule is littered with teams who were ranked in the preseason Associated Press and ESPN/USA TODAY Top 25 polls. The Lady Vols will face #1/1 UConn, #3/3 Vanderbilt (twice), #5/4 Duke, #6/6 Louisiana Tech, #9/9 Stanford, #10/11N.C. State, #13/13 Florida (twice), #16/15 Georgia, #18/18 Old Dominion, #20/22 George Washington and #21 Louisiana State.
AT SEC MEDIA DAYS
The Lady Vols were declared the top vote getters to nab the SEC crown at SEC Media Days held on Nov.1 in Birmingham, Ala. Additionally, Kara Lawson and Gwen Jackson earned spots on the preseason All-SEC Team. Vanderbilt was predicted to finish second to UT in the SEC this season.
WHAT'S UP WITH #43?
Lady Vol fans might be confused when they see #43 step onto the court this season. Sophomore Ashley Robinson is #43, right? Well, Robinson was #43 as a rookie but switched to her favorite number, 33, after Kristen "Ace" Clement graduated last season. Rookie Shyra Ely will don number 43 this season for the Lady Vols.
BROGDON TO JOIN THE HALL OF FAME
Former Lady Vol Olympian and All-American Cindy Brogdon will be inducted into the Class of 2002 in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Brogdon, who was an All-American and Olympian at Tennessee from 1977-79, will be inducted as a player. She becomes the fifth University of Tennessee product to be enshrined in the WBHOF joining Pat Summitt and former Lady Vol players Trish Roberts, Cindy Noble-Hauserman and Holly Warlick.
ORIGINAL NAISMITH LIST
The University of Tennessee placed senior Michelle Snow and juniors Kara Lawson and Gwen Jackson on the initial ballot for the Naismith Player of the Year Award. The Atlanta Tip-Off Club annually presents the award to the top male and female players in the nation.
LADY VOL SIGNEES
Tennessee signed two outstanding players during the 2001 NCAA Early Signing Period-- Shanna Zolman, a 5-9 guard from Syracuse, Ind. (Wawasee H.S.) and Tye'sha Fluker, a 6-5 center from Pasadena, Calif. (John Muir H.S.). Entering her senior season, Zolman averaged 32.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 4.5 apg and 5.0 spg as a high school All-American. Fluker, also a high school All-America, tossed in over 26 points and grabbed 18.7 rpg as a junior last year.
200 WINS IN THE BAG
Tennessee recorded its 200th win in Thompson-Boling Arena when the Lady Vols defeated the University of Southern California Women of Troy on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001, 106-66. UT has now amassed a 201-9 record since the Orange and White moved into the Thompson-Boling Arena to start the 1987-88 season 14-years ago. UT also registered an NCAA record 69-game homecourt-winning streak from Feb. 1, 1991thru Jan. 2, 1996.
NOTEWORTHY
The Lady Vols won their 100th game in Thompson-Boling Arena with the victory over Stanford on 12-1-94.
UT suffered two losses the first year in the new arena (12-2 overall), a 97-78 defeat to Texas on Dec. 9, 1987 and a 71-68 loss to Auburn exactly one month later on Jan. 9, 1988.
The Lady Vols enjoyed a flawless home slate in 1988-89 with a 15-0 record. UT almost duplicated the record a year later but dropped a one-point decision to Louisiana Tech, 59-58 (again on Dec. 9), and turned in a 14-1 showing in 1989-90.
In 1990-91, the Lady Vols (15-1 at home) went down in defeat to Georgia, 81-74 on Jan. 28, 1991. From that point, until UT lost to Connecticut on Jan. 6, 1996 (59-53), the Lady Vols won a NCAA record 69 consecutive games.
In 1996-97, the Lady Vols went 13-2 at home after losing back-to-back games to Georgia and Stanford in December. It marked the first time the team had lost consecutive games in the Arena.
In 1999-2000, UT was 13-2 with losses to Louisiana Tech and Connecticut.
152 OF 157 AT HOME
The Lady Vols have won 152 of their last 157 games in Thompson-Boling Arena dating back to Feb. 1, 1991. UT's five losses were to Louisiana Tech, Connecticut (twice), Stanford, and Georgia (OT).

TBA STREAK AT 26 GAMES
Tennessee has won 26 consecutive games in Thompson-Boling Arena that ranks as the fourth longest homecourt winning streak in Lady Vol history.
IN OVERTIME
The Lady Vols are 20-10 all-time in overtime games. The most OT games in a season was 1996-97, when the Lady Vols were 3-1 in overtime contests losing to Georgia, 94-93, and defeating Texas, 68-65, Vanderbilt, 92-79 and LSU, 100-99. Tennessee's 21 points in the extra stanza against Vanderbilt on Jan.19, 1997, was the most ever scored by the Lady Vols in a single overtime. The previous high-water mark was 18 points versus Colorado on Dec. 20, 1993.
100 POINT GAMES
Since 1974, the Lady Vols have gone over the century mark 67 times - and once so far in the 2001-02 season. Noteworthy: Tennessee went over 100 points in an NCAA playoff game for the first time ever in 1993-94 with the win over North Carolina A&T, 111-37.
