TONIGHT'S GAME
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols travel to the Windy City to face DePaul in its final game before the Christmas holidays. UT is on the downside run of a month-long eight consecutive road contest swing - DePaul is stop number five. After tonight's game, UT will be off until the team returns to action in the ACC/SEC Shootout in Atlanta, Ga., on Dec. 27.
IN OUR LAST GAME
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers took on its toughest opponent on the road to date and rallied to a 68-62 victory over #6/5 Stanford on Dec. 16 in Palo Alto, Calif. In a sold-out Maples Pavilion (7,391), the game had a post-season feel about it as both teams struggled to score its first bucket. UT took off after the score was knotted at 6-6 (16:48) jumping out to an 11-point lead, 17-6, two minutes later (14:58). During that run, sophomore Tasha Butts nailed three treys. The Cardinal then fashioned a 16-0 run to take a 24-19 advantage with 9:37 to go in the first half. Seven more lead changes would occur in the opening stanza before UT rookie Brittany Jackson hit a monster trey with 24 seconds left before the half to tie the score at 38-all going into the locker room. Senior Michelle Snow paced UT with 10 first half points. In the second half, the Lady Vols could never muster a big scoring run as Stanford led for 16 minutes and 15 seconds of the second stanza. UT hit a trey to start the second half but fell behind as many as five (48-43 at 14:35) before tying the game at 48-all (10:36) and 56-all at 6:50. However, over the final 3:13 of the game, the Lady Vols outscored the Cardinal 9-1. UT got the go-ahead bucket off a driving Kara Lawson jumper with 1:48 showing. Snow followed with another big bucket and then charity tosses by Snow and Gwen Jackson sealed the win. For the game, two Lady Vols were in double-figures led by Snow's game high 24 points (12-15 FT). Joining her in double-digits was Lawson with 16 points. Snow led all UT rebounders with seven boards. The Lady Vols connected on just 41% of their field goals, found the range for 46% of three-pointers and 70% of all free throws. Stanford became the second team to out-rebound UT in the 2001-02 campaign taking a 42-33 advantage. The Lady Vols grabbed just seven offensive boards - the lowest of the season.
CONFERENCE CALL
This season, Tennessee will take on teams from 11 different conferences.
LADY VOLS ON TELEVISION
Eighteen Lady Vol regular season games will be on television this year. Upcoming games on TV in 2001-02 include Duke (FOX) and Memphis (Comcast).
ON THIS DAY
On Dec. 19th, the Lady Vols have produced a 7-1 record all-time. The Lady Vols have a 2-0 record at home, a 3-1 record away and 2-0 slate at a neutral site. UT's most recent game on this day was an 82-59 win at St. Joseph's during the 1999-2000 season.
LOOKING BACK
Last year at this time, the Lady Vols were 9-0 and had just defeated Stanford, 63-58, in Knoxville.
OUR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
After tonight's game against DePaul, the Lady Vols will hold practice in Chicago on the morning of Dec. 20 before the players travel to their respective homes for the Christmas holidays. The group will reconvene in Atlanta, Ga., on Dec. 26 in preparation for an ACC/SEC Shootout meeting against #8 Duke in Philips Arena on Dec. 27 as a part of a doubleheader on FOX Sports. The other game features Georgia versus Georgia Tech. UT continues its travels heading to Memphis for a Dec. 29 meeting in The Pyramid. Tennessee began its month of traveling on the "Big Cities Tour" at the end of November. UT first visited Washington, D.C., where the Lady Vols defeated #21/20 George Washington Univ., 88-57, in a sold-out Charles E. Smith Center on Nov. 27. Tennessee returned home briefly before traveling to Orlando, Fla., for the Honda Elite Four on Dec. 2 at Disney World and hung a 93-56 loss on the #8/9 N.C. State Wolfpack on ESPN. UT then traveled "back east" for a hard-fought 75-66 victory over BIG EAST foe Boston College. After an 11-day break for final exams, the Lady Vols pulled out a big win at #6/5 Stanford, 68-62, in front of a sold-out Maples Pavilion crowd.
OUR BAGS ARE STILL PACKED
The Tennessee Lady Vols will be on the road for eight consecutive games traveling to Washington, D.C., Orlando, Chestnut Hill, Mass., Palo Alto, Calif., Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis and Gainesville, Fla., before finally returning home on Jan. 5, 2002, to face top-ranked Connecticut in Thompson-Boling Arena. Thus far, Tennessee is 4-0 on the "Big Cities Tour."
LADY VOL WATCH BOX
Tonight, Kara Lawson needs just eight points to become the 26th member of the Lady Vols' 1000-point club.
GET THE IRON PILLS
In the last two games, Tennessee's rebounding has been anemic but particularly so on the offensive end. UT has been out-rebounded by both Boston College (37-35) and Stanford (42-33). The Lady Vols have managed a scant total of just 15 offensive rebounds out of their 72 missed shots in both games. Mathematically, UT is getting just 19% of its missed shots back as offensive rebounds.
LOTS 'O RANKED TEAMS
Starting with the Stanford game, the Lady Vols began a stretch of eight out of 10 games versus ranked opponents over the next 31 days. DePaul and Memphis are the only unranked foes appearing on the schedule until after Jan. 20, 2002. Along the way UT will face #1 UConn, #6/5 Stanford, #8 Duke, #20 Florida, #21 LSU, #23/24 South Carolina, #24/25 Old Dominion and #25 Auburn.
FLORIDA HAS BEEN SET
The Tennessee at Florida women's basketball game has been finally set for Jan. 3 at 6:00 p.m. Florida officials wanted to wait until bowl bids had been extended.

As of Dec. 17, over 20,500 tickets have been snapped up for the showdown between top-ranked Connecticut and second-ranked Tennessee on Jan. 5, 2002, in Knoxville, Tenn. Number two Tennessee traveled to snowy Chicago on Dec. 17, 1999, and came away with a 100-66 victory over DePaul. UT's junior class of Tamika Catchings, Kristen Clement and Semeka Randall cranked up a high-octane offense in the opening five minutes of the game resulting in a quick 13-point (15-2) lead. At 11:42 to go in the first half, Michelle Snow tallied the first non-junior class bucket and gave UT a 27-6 lead. UT extended their margin by as many as 30 points (43-13) on a Kyra Elzy lay-up with 7:28 showing. At the break, UT led 61-35 with the three juniors out-scoring DePaul as the trio tossed in a collective 37 points. In the second half, UT went to its bench early as all 14 players saw some PT. Tennessee led by 32, 82-50, with 10 minutes left in the game. UT eclipsed the century mark for the 60th time in school history as Sarah Edwards hit a runner at the buzzer. On the night, three Lady Vols reached double-figures led by Catchings' 21 points and three steals. Also in extra digits were Randall with 18 points and Clement with 17 points and nine assists. GAME REPORT 8 - DEPAUL
The DePaul Blue Demons are off to a solid 6-4 start behind the outstanding scoring of 6-1 senior forward Lenae Williams (26.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg). Williams is averaging nearly a point-a-minute and leads the Blue Demons in assists (27) and steals (27) as well. A month ago, DePaul nearly spoiled #5 Iowa State's season on their home floor falling 79-75 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. OUR LAST MEETING WITH DEPAUL
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers opened the 2000-01 season with a 94-52 victory over DePaul in Knoxville on Nov. 18, 2000. Unlike the Lady Vols' two preseason blowouts, the Blue Demons kept UT in check in the first half holding the Orange lead to five-to-eight points of separation. UT grabbed a 25-17 margin with 7:41 showing in the opening stanza after a Gwen Jackson free throw. DePaul sliced that lead in half before UT senior guard Semeka Randall went to work in the last 2:37 in the first half. Randall knocked in a 17-footer, converted a steal for a lay-up, followed by another lay-up, and finally a scoring pass to rookie LaToya Davis to boost the Lady Vol advantage at the break to a dozen points, 43-31. In the second stanza, Tennessee gradually pulled away. UT led by 20 points, 60-40, at the 11:19 mark after a Courtney McDaniel lay-up. The Lady Vols' lead increased to 30 points with 6:53 left after a Davis three-ball made the score, 74-44. On the night, five Lady Vols reached double-figure scoring led by Gwen Jackson's 17 points. Also in extra digits were Semeka Randall with 16 points, Tamika Catchings with 14 points, Ashley Robinson and Davis with 11 each. Jackson led all rebounders with 11 boards while Catchings also grabbed double-digit boards with 10. UT outrebounded DePaul, 51-23, and forced 20 Blue Demon turnovers off of 11 UT steals. The Lady Vols connected on 51.5% of its field goal tries.
AVERAGE SCORE
The average score of all UT-DePaul games is 87.6 (Tennessee) and 56.8 (DePaul).

AP POLL NOTES
The Associated Press women's Top 25 basketball poll released on Jan. 1, 2001, marked the 400th appearance by the Tennessee Lady Vols. Since the poll was started in 1976, UT has failed to appear in just 14 polls through the years. Currently, UT has been ranked in 288 consecutive polls and since the 1986-87 season, the Lady Vols have been in the top 10 for all but one poll. UT is the only team to have been ranked every year for the last 26 years in the AP poll. UT has appeared at least once per season over the poll's history.
GOT A LITTLE ROAD STREAK
The last time UT lost on the road was on Jan. 17, 2000, at Georgia, 78-51, since then the team has won 20 consecutive road games.
WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS, WE'LL HAVE 5 STARTERS
Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt has indicated that she might tinker with the starting line-up (again) for the DePaul game. Look for sophomore LaToya Davis to be a potential player in the starting five. Summitt has started four different line-ups in the seven games played.
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME
When the action down the stretch got tight at both Stanford and Boston College, the Lady Vols finally showed some spunk at the free throw line canning 19-27 (71%) against Stanford and 20-23 tosses (.870) versus Boston College. Tennessee has been plagued by charity stripe defense intermittently during the early going - 15 misses against George Washington, 11 vs. Southern Cal, 10 each against Louisiana Tech and N.C. State.
THROUGH DECEMBER:
A GRUELING STRETCH
Traditionally, Tennessee teams take most of its losses in the month of December when Coach Pat Summitt loads up on some tough non-conference opposition to prepare the team for the rigors of March and the postseason. Last year, the Lady Vol team carried one blemish into January following its late December loss to Connecticut.

DECEMBER SUCCESS
The Tennessee Lady Vols have enjoyed a great deal of success in the month of December over the years. UT has produced a 141-38 all-time record during the 12th month of the year. The Lady Vols are 45-8 at home, 52-22 away and 44-8 at neutral sites.
SELL-OUT CITY
Stanford announced on Monday, Dec. 10 that the game with Tennessee was an advance sell-out. UT's game with George Washington (Nov. 27) was also an advance sell-out while the Lady Vols and UT-Chattanooga attracted the largest crowd ever to watch the Mocs play, 9,113. Look for all of UT's all-time sold-out appearances to be a new newsy note real soon.
WHAT'S UP WITH #43 AND #33?
Lady Vol fans might be confused when they see #43 step onto the court this season. Sophomore Ashley Robinson is #43, right? Well, Robinson was #43 as a rookie but switched to her favorite number, 33, after Kristen "Ace" Clement graduated last season. Rookie Shyra Ely will don number 43 this season.
HOW 'BOUT THAT. . .ROOKIES REPRESENT
Freshman forward Shyra Ely was joined in the starting line-up for the Boston College game by fellow rookie, Loree Moore who started at point guard.
GOOD NEWS
Senior center Shalon Pillow, who injured her left knee midway through practice on Thurs., Nov. 29, was cleared to play on Dec. 3. Team orthopaedist Dr. William T. Youmans cleared Pillow after reading her MRI and re-evaluating her knee on Dec. 3. Pillow suffered a bone bruise to the left knee. Lady Vol starting guard/forward Tasha Butts underwent an MRI of her left knee on Dec. 3 to determine the cause of her knee pain. Butts' pain is a result of degenerative changes in the knee. She was cleared to play as well.
DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE
Junior forward Gwen Jackson turned in the first Lady Vol double-double of the season with a 14-point and 12-rebound performance against #8/9 N.C. State.
BENCH INTENSITY
UT's bench did not find a match in the N.C. State reserves. UT's bench accounted for 35 points, 12 assists and 14 steals while the NCSU subs added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 12 miscues.
GOT OUR 300TH VICTORY AGAINST A RANKED TEAM
The Tennessee Lady Vols recorded their 300th all-time win versus a ranked team with the victory over fifth-ranked Louisiana Tech, 90-75, on Nov. 23. The Lady Vols now stand 303-124 (.709) overall against ranked foes since the polls began in 1976.
STANFORD WAS 766
The victory over Stanford was Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt's 766th of her 28-year career. Now with 766 wins, she currently ranks 10th among all coaches (men's or women's) in all-time victories. She will move into ninth place and pass the legendary Hank Iba (Oklahoma State) with two more wins. Iba was 767-338 during his career.
The only woman Summitt trails behind is Jody Conradt of the University of Texas who started this season in her 33rd year of coaching with 766 wins. Conradt is off to a 7-1 start on the year and currently has 773 victories.
ELITE COMPANY
When Pat Summitt started freshman forward Shyra Ely against Tennessee-Chattanooga on Nov. 16, 2001, it marked only the ninth time in her coaching career that a freshman started her very first game at Tennessee. The list of opening day rookie starters: Ashley Robinson 2000, Gwen Jackson 1999, Semeka Randall 1997, Kyra Elzy 1996, Chamique Holdsclaw 1995, Tiffani Johnson 1994, Bridgette Gordon and Sheila Frost 1985.
147 WINS IN OUR LAST 157 GAMES
The Lady Vols have won an amazing 147 games in their last 157 basketball contests (.935 winning percentage) spanning five seasons (starting with NCAA Tournament play in 1997). UT was 6-0 in the 1997 NCAA Tourney, ran the table with a 39-0 record in 1997-98, turned in a 31-3 worksheet in 1998-99, a 33-4 mark during the 1999-2000 season, a 31-3 mark last season and a 7-0 mark in 2001-02.
LADY VOL STREAKS
The last time the Lady Vols lost at home was against Connecticut, 74-67, on Jan. 8, 2000 -- since then, the team has won 26 consecutive home games. The last time UT lost on the road was on Jan. 17, 2000, at Georgia, 78-51, since then the team has won 20 consecutive road games. The last time the Lady Vols lost on a neutral court was against Xavier, 80-65, in the 2001 NCAA Mideast Regional semifinals on Mar. 24, 2001. Since then, UT has won one game on a neutral court.
UT'S LAST LOSS TO AN UNRANKED TEAM...?
When is the last time Tennessee lost to an unranked team? That would have been to Auburn on Mar. 2, 1997 at the SEC Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn.
WHO'S THAT LADY (VOL)?
The thousands of Lady Vol fans who were in attendance at The McKenzie Arena on Nov. 16th - opening night of the 2001-02 season - in Chattanooga, witnessed the debut of another outstanding Tennessee rookie class. Shyra Ely became a rare Lady Vol rookie starter playing in place of injured junior Gwen Jackson - Ely scored a team-leading 16 points and grabbed six offensive boards. Point guard Loree Moore logged 24 minutes and added 15 points and snagged five steals. Forward Michelle Munoz calmly nailed a trey for her first bucket and finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Finally, Brittany Jackson scored seven points to go along with three steals. In all, the rookie crew was responsible for 51 of UT's 97 points and 20 of the Lady Vols' 54 rebounds.
THE POLLING PLACE
In the first Associated Press and USA TODAY/ESPN polls of the year on Nov. 5, the Tennessee Lady Vols began the 2001-02 season as the number three (AP) and number two (USA TODAY/ESPN) ranked team in the country. It marked the sixth time that UT has started the season in the second spot in at least one of the polls.
IS IT TOUGH ENOUGH?
The Lady Vols 2001-02 schedule is littered with teams who were ranked in the preseason Associated Press and ESPN/USA TODAY Top 25 polls. The Lady Vols will face #1/1 UConn, #3/3 Vanderbilt (twice), #5/4 Duke, #6/6 Louisiana Tech, #9/9 Stanford, #10/11N.C. State, #13/13 Florida (twice), #16/15 Georgia, #18/18 Old Dominion, #20/22 George Washington and #21 Louisiana State.
AT SEC MEDIA DAYS

BROGDON TO JOIN WBHOF
Former Lady Vol Olympian and All-American Cindy Brogdon will be inducted into the Class of 2002 in the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. Brogdon, who was an All-American and Olympian at Tennessee from 1977-79, will be inducted as a player. She becomes the fifth University of Tennessee product to be enshrined in the WBHOF joining Pat Summitt and former Lady Vol players Trish Roberts, Cindy Noble-Hauserman and Holly Warlick.

Fluker, also a high school All-America, tossed in over 26 points and grabbed 18.7 rpg as a junior last year.
200 WINS IN THE BAG
