Stephens Named a Doak Walker Award Finalist

DALLAS (AP) -- Tennessee senior Travis Stephens, Maryland sophomore Bruce Perry, BYU junior Luke Staley are the finalists for this year's Doak Walker Award.
The award, named after the former Southern Methodist star, goes to the top running back in college football. The award will be announced Dec. 6 on ESPN's College Football Awards Show from Orlando, Fla.
Stephens, who leads the SEC in rushing with 1,201 yards and eight touchdowns, became the 10th Tennesse back to rush for over 1000 yards in a season this year and surpassed the 2000-yard mark for his career.
Perry helped the Terps win their first ACC championship since 1985 by rushing for 1,242 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Staley ranks second in the nation with 143.3 yards for the undefeated Cougars. He leads the nation in rushing touchdowns with 24 and total touchdowns with 28.
Last year's winner was LaDainian Tomlinson of Texas Christian.
