Tennessee seniors Will Bartholomew and Will Overstreet have been named to the 2001 Football Verizon Academic All-District IV team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bartholomew, a Nashville native, and Overstreet, from Jackson, Miss., are part of Tennessee's 7-1 team that has won four in a row and ranks sixth in both major polls. But they also have starred in the classroom, with Bartholomew sporting a 3.76 grade-point average and Overstreet a 3.46. Both are finance majors.
To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.00 scale) for his career. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. District IV includes all schools within the states of Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.
Bartholomew and Overstreet now will appear on the Verizon Academic All-America ballot. The Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America Football Team will be announced Dec. 10.
