Doug Marrone
The newest member of the Tennessee football coaching staff is Doug Marrone who joins the Vol program after spending the 2000 season on the coaching staff at the University of Georgia.
Marrone will coach the Tennessee tight ends and also assist Mike Barry with the offensive line, working directly with the tackles. Tennessee returns ample experience at both positions for the 2001 season. At tight end, John Finlayson returns for his senior season and has made 22 career starts. At offensive tackle 2000 starters Reggie Coleman and Anthony Munoz both return for the 2001 season. Marrone spent one season on the Georgia coaching staff, after a five-year stint at Georgia Tech. With the Yellow Jackets, Marrone served in three different staff positions. He was Techs director of football operations in 1995, before returning to the field as the tight ends coach in 1996. From 1997 to 1999, Marrone tutored the Tech offensive line, helping the school produce on of the nations top offenses. In 1999, the Yellow Jackets finished first nationally in total offense, averaging 509.4 yards per game and second in scoring, putting 40.7 points per game on the board. Tech participated in a bowl game each season from 1997 to 1999, including a 10-2 record and Gator Bowl victory in 1998. Marrone began his coaching career at Courtland (N.Y.) State as a tight ends coach in 1992 and also served one-year stints at the United States Coast Guard Academy (1993) and Northeastern University (1994), both as offensive line coach. Marrone, a native of the The Bronx, N.Y., lettered for three seasons (1983-85) as an offensive lineman at Syracuse University, earning honorable mentiion All-America honors in his senior year. The 1985 Orangemen posted a 7-5 record and played in the Cherry Bowl, a game in which Marrone was named Co-MVP. He earned his bachelors degree in psychology at Syracuse. Marrone was selected in the sixth round of the 1986 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Raiders. He played professionally for seven years (1986-92), including stints with the Raiders, Dolphins, Cowboys, Saints, Vikings and Steelers. He completed his pro career in the World League in 1992, earning All-World League honors for the league champion London Monarchs. Marrone is married to the former Helen Donnelly, a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn. His father-in-law is Boots Donnelly, the athletic director and former head coach at Middle Tennessee State.

The 36-year-old Marrone brings nine seasons of collegiate coaching experience to the Tennessee staff, including six years at the Division I level. In addition, Marrone played collegiately at Syracuse University and seven seasons in professional football after graduation.
