Tennessee linebacker Eric Westmoreland was named first-team All-SEC by the league's coaches. |
Henderson, who leads the SEC in quarterback sacks with 12 from his defensive tackle position, is one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy presented annually to the nation's top lineman. The Outland will be announced tomorrow night (Dec. 7) in Orlando, Fla. Henderson was also a finalist for this year's Bronko Nagurski Award as the nation's top defensive player.
Westmoreland, a Dick Butkus Award semifinalist, ended the season tied as the team's leading tackler with 83 stops and had a team-high 10 tackles for loss in 2000. The senior from Jasper, Tenn., has started the last 35 games for the Vols, dating back to the 1998 national championship team.
Henry, Tennessee's all-time leading rusher, finished the 2000 campaign with 1,314 yardsthird-best in UT history. The Frostproof, Fla., senior finished runner up to Auburn's Rudi Johnson for this year's league rushing title, averaging 119.5 yards per game this season.
Walls was "Mr. Perfect" for the Vols for much of the season, connecting on his first 14 field goals in 2000. A second-team Football News All-America, Walls kicked the game-winning field goal in the final seconds of UT's 19-17 win at Memphis. The sophomore from Bristol, Va., had streak of 16 consecutive field goals that dated back to the 1999 campaign ranks second in UT history.
The coaches tabbed Auburn's Johnson as the SEC Player of the Year, while South Carolina's Lou Holtz was named the league's Coach of the Year. South Carolina's Kenyatta Walker was named the winner of the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, awarded annually to the league's top blocker.
Florida led all SEC teams with five players on the first-team followed by Tennessee and Auburn with four players each. Johnson was the only unanimous All-SEC pick by the coaches.
