Tennessee now leads the all-time series with Memphis 17-1.
Four of the last five meetings between Tennessee and Memphis have been decided by five points or less. The last three meetings between the two schools has been decided by a total of seven points.
Tennessee is 21-7 all-time when playing at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. Tennessee is 8-1 against Memphis in the stadium. The Volunteers have won nine of their last 10 games in Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.
Tennessee has won each of its last two games on its final possession. Today Alex Walls kicked a 34-yard field goal to give the Vols a 19-17 win. Last week at South Carolina, Travis Henry dove into the end zone from 1 yard out in the final minute of Tennessee's 17-14 win.
Since 1985, Tennessee is 57-3 during the month of November, including a 23-2 mark on the road. When playing at home during the month of November, the Vols are 34-1 at home.
Alex Walls extended his consecutive field goals made streak to 16 with a 32-yard kick in the first quarter. The streak came to an end late in the second quarter when Walls missed wide left from 38 yards out. Walls fell two kicks short of tying Fuad Reveiz (1984) for the school record with 18 consecutive field goals made. With the addition of a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 27-yarder and a 34-yarder in the fourth quarter, Walls is now 17-of-18 (.944) on the season and 25-of-29 (.862) for his career.
Walls continued his consecutive point after touchdown streak, improving the number to 26 consecutive PATs when he split the uprights following a Travis Stephens touchdown with 4:54 left in the third quarter. Walls has made 53 of 54 PATs for his career.
The Vol defense has recorded at least three sacks of the opposing quarterback in each of their games this season and at least four sacks in each of their last four games (at Georgia, Alabama, at South Carolina and at Memphis). Today, the Vols greeted the quarterback in the backfield five times with one each coming from Kevin Burnett , Dominique Stevenson, Anthony Sessions, John Henderson and Albert Haynesworth.
Leonard Scott 's 43-yard kickoff return with just under three minutes left in the game was the longest kickoff return by a Vol this season, The previous long was a 40-yard return by Scott last week at South Carolina.
Cedrick Wilson 's four catches for 43 yards increased his career receiving yardage to 1894. He passed Carl Pickens (1875 yards from 1989-91) for sixth on Tennessee's career receiving yardage chart for sixth place.
Tennessee's defense held Memphis to 184 yards of total offense. That is the fourth game in a row (at Georgia, Alabama, at South Carolina and at Memphis) that Tennessee's defense has not allowed 300 or more yards in total offense.
