Lady Vol Rowing Team Competes at Head of the Chattahoochee

Varsity 4+ avenges their only defeat and ups record to 94-1
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee's women's rowing team competed at the Head of the Chattahoochee on Saturday, and once again found success in both the Club 4+ and Club 8+ events. The Lady Vols were coming off last week's Head of the Tennessee that saw them capture gold medals in three of four events.
The Orange and White Club 4+ boat came into the competition with a record of 57-1 with their only defeat coming at the hands of Duke at the Head of Lake Hartwell on October 14. The team of Erika Twedt, Lauren Kueck, Grace Harrington, Ashley Smith and Kacey Montgomery avenged that defeat, winning the race in a time of 19:06.9 and ran their record to 94-1. Right behind them in second place with a time of 19:19.7 was the crew of Shannon McMahon, Kristen Logan, Joyce Kranzke, Kay Logan and Kate Kelsey.
Head coach Lisa Glenn entered two boats in the Club 8+ race and saw UT sweep the top two spots for the second straight regatta. The team of McMahon, Kueck, Kr. Logan, Smith, Harrington, Erin Moore, Kay Logan, Kranzke and Tammy Horton glided into first place with a time of 17:22.8. Twenty seconds behind them was the boat of Twedt, Ginny Bradley, Montgomery, Kelly Kraiss, Claire Newton, Kelsey, Lindsay Sagar, Sally BeVille and Amber Williams.
The Lady Vols put four shells into the water for the Open 2- race. The team of Moore and Horton were the highest finishers for UT as they placed fifth with a time of 20:51.3. Clocking in with a time of 21:36.0 to take 11th place were Bradley and Sagar. The team of Newton and Kraiss placed 14th while the crew of Tori VonderAhe and Williams finished in 15th with times of 23.15.0 and 23:34.8, respectively.
The Championship 8+ boat of Lizzie Brown, Kueck, Montgomery, Smith, Harrington, Kelsey, Kay Logan, Marie Hanscom and Kr. Logan took home 11th place in a time of 18:01.9.
The Novice 8+ crew of Jenny Oliver, Natalie Fecher, Catherine Angel, Denise Caldwell, Katie Zajac, Liz Humberd Kelly Hotaling, Davida Lopez and Keri Meslar finished in sixth with a time of 20:09.5. While the boat of Lawrie Nicholson, Amy McIntosh, Bethany Beil, Rachael Gammon, Stacey Beyer, Whitney Bailey, Mary Beth Lewis, Mary Gruzalski, and Laci Catron clocked in at 20:48.4 to finish in 16th.
Glenn's squad is back in action tomorrow at the Chattahoochee Chase. This event marks the end of the fall season for the Lady Vol rowing team.
