Ten members of the Tennessee football team have been named to various all-star teams by The Sporting News.
John Henderson was named first-team All-America by The Sporting News. Junior defensive tackle John Henderson headlines the list of honorees with his selection as a first-team All-American by the publication. Henderson finished the season with an SEC-leading 12 sacks and 21 tackles for loss and ranked third on the Vol defense with 71 total tackles. Henderson and Mississippi State defensive back Fred Smoot were the only SEC players listed on the first team.
Sophomore placekicker Alex Walls was a second-team All-America selection, after he hit on 18 of 20 field goals and all 39 PAT attempts during the regular season.
Henderson and Walls also led four Vols selected as first-team All-SEC performers by TSN. In addition, senior running back Travis Henry, who broke the UT career rushing record, and senior linebacker Eric Westmoreland, UT's leading tackler, were also tabbed first-team all-conference. Tennessee's four first-team selections tied Florida for tops in the SEC.
Three Vols were named second-team All-SEC, led by freshman quarterback Casey Clausen. The Northridge, Calif., native led UT to a 6-0 record as a starter and passed for a Tennessee freshman record 1,473 yards in 2000. Joining Clausen on second team were junior defensive end Will Overstreet and senior defensive back Andre Lott.
Clausen was also one of four Vol freshmen to be second or third-team Freshman All-America. Offensive tackle Michael Munoz, who started all 11 games this season, was named to the second team, while Clausen, center Scott Wells and free safety Rashad Baker were named third-team Freshmen All-American.
