UT Lettermen, Championship Teams Honored

The
University of Tennessee's Lettermen's Club held dedication ceremonies for
its Wall of Fame prior to the Vols' football game against Kentucky.

The Wall of Fame is a monument to all lettermen of the University of Tennessee located in front of the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex. The marble structure contains over 5500 names of every UT lettermen in both men's and women's sports.
"We've built a lot of things around the university and we've done all kinds of projects, but I don't think anybody has taken more pride in anything we have here this wall," said UT athletic director Doug Dickey. "The Wall honors all the lettermen over the years and it has been put together by your organization. We appreciate the support and the enthusiasm the Lettermen's Club gives our programs, but most of all I appreciate the tradition that you put here at Tennessee."
The Wall of Fame was built at a cost of about $230,000 and was funded by the Lettermen's Club. Space is allotted for future lettermen will be added to the Wall.
Coach Fulmer said the wall is an excellent tribute to the history of Tennessee athletics. "It is a great way to honor the history and traditions of all the programs here," Fulmer said.

Championship Teams Honored Prior to UK Game
Tennessee's 1985, 1989 and 1990 SEC Championship football teams were recogized
at midfield prior to today's game against Kentucky.

Members of the three teams, along with their head coach, Johnny Majors, were recognized.
The 1985 Vols won the SEC title and finished No. 4 in the final national polls following a 35-7 thumping of the Miami Hurricanes in the Sugar Bowl.
The 1989-90 teams won back-to-back SEC titles. The 1989 Vols rolled to an 11-1 mark, a Cotton Bowl victory over Arkansas and a No. 5 finish in the major polls.
The 1990 Vols capped a 9-2-2 season with a 23-22 win over Virginia in the Sugar Bowl and a No. 7 final ranking.
