Henderson Named to Outland Trophy Watch List
October 26, 2000 | Football
The announcement continues a banner week for Henderson, who was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, following a seven-tackle effort in Tennessee's 20-10 win against Alabama. The 6-7, 290-pound, Nashville native is tied for the SEC lead in sacks with six for 35 yards in losses and ranks third on the Vol defense in total tackles with 41. Henderson is a key part of Tennessee's rush defense which ranks second in the SEC and ninth nationally, allowing 79.2 yards per game.
The Outland Trophy Watch List, chosen by the Football Writers Association of America All-America Committee, will be paired down in a series of conference calls in November. The three finalists will announced in late November and the winner will be named Dec. 7 at the ESPN College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla.
The Outland Trophy has been presented annually to the nation's top interior lineman since 1946. It is the third oldest award in college football behind the Heisman Trophy and the Maxwell Award and is named for the late Dr. John Outland, an All-America lineman at Penn at the turn of the 20th century.
