The 6-7, 290-pound junior from Nashville recorded seven tackles (all solo) in addition to three for losses and a quarterback sack against the Crimson Tide. The All-America candidate's efforts were a big factor in UT limiting Alabama to just 225 total yards and just 44 on the ground. The Crimson Tide entered the game averaging an SEC-leading 178.8 rushing yards.
"John Henderson is playing exceptional football and is very deserving of this award from the SEC," said Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer. "He goes to practice everyday to try to be the best that he can be and with his potential, that can be outstanding."
Henderson leads the Vols with six sacks this season and is Tennessee's third-leading tackler with 41 stops (37 solo). He has recorded at least one sack and at least six tackles in five of six games this season.
