Trammell Becomes Eighth Vol in World Series

Trammell on Playing in the World Series Knoxville native Bubba Trammell became the eighth former Tennessee Volunteer baseball player to play on a World Series-bound team when the New York Mets clinched the National League pennant with a 7-0 win against the St. Louis Cardinals Monday night.
The Mets will meet the New York Yankees beginning Saturday, Oct. 21.
Trammell, who was traded to the Mets from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays midway through the 2000 season, made three pinch-hit appearances in the League Championship series, going 0-for-3.
Other Vols who appeared on World Series rosters include: Greg McMichael (Atlanta 1995, 1996), Rick Honeycutt (Oakland 1989, 1990), Mike Smithson (Minnesota 1987), Phil Garner (Pittsburgh 1979), Ed Bailey (San Francisco 1962), Tommy Bridges (Detroit 1934, 1935) and Sammy Strang (New York Giants 1905).
Mike Smithson was on the World Series roster, but did not appear in any games.
