Summitt Hall of Fame Induction

Springfield, Mass. -- University of Tennessee Lady Vol basketball coach Pat Summitt joined Isiah Thomas, Bob McAdoo, Morgan Wootten, C.M. Newton, and Danny Biasone as the Class of 2000 in induction ceremonies on Oct. 13, 2000, in Springfield, Mass., home of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Accompanied by her coaching staff and an entourage that included over 30 family members, University of Tennessee officials, and lifelong friends, Summitt was the fifth person of the Class of 2000 to be inducted.
"It is such a tremendous honor to be selected for the Hall of Fame," said Summitt. "I am happy that I could share this moment with so many people who have meant so much in my career at Tennessee."
Summitt was escorted by her son Tyler and was introduced by Hall of Famer Billie Moore, former head coach at UCLA and her 1976 Olympic coach. "It is a tremendous honor to be included in the company of such an outstanding class," said Summitt.
On Saturday, it will be back to business for Summitt who is beginning her 27th season at the University of Tennessee. She will step on the court at Thompson-Boling Arena at 4:00 p.m. to kick off the 2000-01 season. "We are ready to go (gesturing to her assistants)," said Summitt. "I am excited about this young basketball team."
