TODAY'S GAME
This afternoon, the number two ranked Tennessee Lady Vols travel to Athens, Georgia, to face the nation's seventh ranked team in the Georgia Lady Bulldogs in an all-important Southeastern Conference match-up. The matinee contest will be televised on espn2.
IN OUR LAST GAME
The #2 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers kept their SEC record perfect with a less than perfect performance in defeating the South Carolina Lady Gamecocks, 92-76, on Jan. 14, 2000 in Columbia, S.C. After a spurty start, the Lady Vols opened a three point lead, 11-8 at the 14:54 mark of the first half. Five minutes later, UT exploded to a 24-point, 34-10 advantage behind the hot hands of rookie Kara Lawson and sophomore post Michelle Snow. UT's lead would swell by as many as 25 points in the first half before taking a 49-31 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half, the Lady Vols squandered their double-digit lead and allowed the Lady Gamecocks to pull to within nine points, 61-52 with 10:54 to play. A seven-point flurry from Snow over the next four minutes took the Lady Vols' lead back to 14 points. On the night, four Lady Vols starters reached double-figures led by Snow's career high-tying 24 point game. Also in double-figures for UT were Semeka Randall with 17 points, Lawson with 16 points and Tamika Catchings who tallied 14 points. Snow cleared the glass for a team-leading seven rebounds while rookie April McDivitt tallied a career high eight assists while logging 24 minutes. UT was outrebounded by USC, 33-32, but forced the Lady Gamecocks into 27 turnovers off of 15 steals. UT shot an impressive .576 for the game.
LADY VOLS ON TELEVISION
Twenty-one Lady Vol regular season games will be on television this year. Previously, UT appeared in a then-school record 17 regular season TV appearances and 22 TV games overall during the 1996-97 season. Upcoming games on TV includes Georgia and Kentucky. UT is 9-2 on TV this season.
ON THIS DAY
On Jan. 17th, the Lady Vols have produced a 10-3 record all-time. The Lady Vols have a 5-0 record at home, are 5-3 away and have never played on a neutral site on this day. UT's most recent game on Jan. 17 was a 98-60 win over Kentucky last season in Knoxville. UT has lost to Georgia in Athens on this day - Jan. 17, 1982 - the `Dawgs won 66-63.
OUR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
After today's game with Georgia, the Lady Vols return home to enjoy its longest game break since the holidays - six days - before traveling to Kentucky on Jan. 23. See that smile on Coach Pat Summitt's face? That means her team will have academic focus, quality practice time in the gym (a.k.a Camp Summitt), and some days off for players and staff.
WE'LL SEND A POSTCARD
After being away from home for most of the month of December 1999 (just two home games on Dec. 2 and Dec. 30), the Lady Vols opened the 2000 portion of the schedule in Knoxville with three games in Thompson-Boling Arena. Now, UT is in the midst of another one of those long road lulls. Starting with the Jan.14th date at South Carolina, Tennessee will be on the road for four games (Jan. 17 at Georgia, Jan. 23 at Kentucky and Jan. 29 vs. N.C. State in Cleveland, Ohio) before returning to Thompson-Boling Arena on Jan. 30 to face Kentucky.
THE ENVELOPE PLEASE
Lady Vol Coach Pat Summitt has received her annual invitation to attend the ESPY Awards. This year, the ESPYs will be handed out in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Feb. 14. Summitt has been nominated for Coach of the Decade and her Lady Vols have been nominated for the Team of the Decade awards. In the 1990s, she led her Lady Vols to four NCAA titles -- coming in 1991, 1996, 1997 and 1998.
TODAY'S FORECAST INCLUDES SNOW
The weather outside is frightful Well, the weather inside has been frightful for the Lady Vol opposition lately, as 6'5 center Michelle Snow has suddenly become more of a force. Snow has produced scoring flurries of 24, 21, 22 and 24 points in her last four games - while resetting her career high for points three times. Since the calendar rolled over to the year 2000, Snow has averaged 21.4 ppg.
LADY VOL HOOPS GOES OUTSIDE - BANK ONE BALLPARK GAME SET
In an attempt to break the NCAA women's basketball attendance record and play the first-ever outdoor college basketball game, the University of Tennessee has been invited to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Dec. 28, 2000 at the 48,569-seat Bank One Ballpark. Proceeds from the ticket sales for the game will benefit breast cancer research. ASU will be attempting to break the Lady Vols' NCAA record attendance of 24,597 set on Jan. 3, 1998 versus Connecticut in Thompson-Boling Arena.

OUR LAST MEETING AGAINST GEORGIA
The number two-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols claimed its ninth SEC Tournament title with a resounding 85-69 victory over the #14/12 Georgia Lady Bulldogs on Feb. 28, 1999 in Chattanooga, Tenn. It marked UT's third win over UGA during the 1998-99 season. Both teams engaged in a nip-and-tuck affair over the first seven minutes of play (Georgia 18-17, 13:20) before the Lady Bulldogs starting pulling away. UG led UT by as many as nine points, 38-29 with 3:08 to go, before the Lady Vols outscored them, 8-2, to head to the locker room down by three points at the break (40-37). After some halftime adjustments, UT came out attacking in the second half. In the opening four minutes, Tennessee outscored Georgia 10-0, to take a 47-40 lead at the 16:00 minute mark. UT's disrupting defense kept Georgia on its heels allowing the Dawgs just six points in the first 12 minutes of play (2-13 from the field) as UT led 59-46 with eight minutes to go. Tamika Catchings was UT's dominator in the second half scoring 18 of her team high 24 points. On the afternoon, she got scoring help from tourney MVP Chamique Holdsclaw with 19 points and 13 rebounds and Michelle Snow with 14 points and nine boards. Snow and Catchings joined Holdsclaw on the SEC All-Tournament team. The Lady Vols outrebounded Georgia, 45-34, and forced 19 Bulldog miscues. After shooting a chilly 39% in the first half, the Lady Vols connected on 55% of its second half shots.
THE LAST MEETING IN ATHENS
The number one-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols came up big in a huge match-up at #4 Georgia, on Jan. 28, 1999, recording a 95-79 victory in front of the largest crowd (10,523) ever to see the Lady Bulldogs play in Athens, Ga. Tennessee took the early lead, 21-16, at the 10:50 mark of the first half. Behind a flurry of buckets by reserve Ace Clement, UT opened its largest lead in the opening stanza - seven points. The Dawgs rallied to a three-point lead with four minutes to go in the first half but UT passed them to take a 41-37 lead at the break.
THE FIRST 1999 MEETING BETWEEN UT & UGA
The number one-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols returned home for the first of two SEC match ups and defeated the fourth ranked Georgia Lady Bulldogs, 102-69, on Jan. 14, 1999 in Thompson-Boling Arena. The fifth largest crowd in Lady Vol basketball history, 22,635, was on hand to see UT's 33 point victory. A trio of UT Meeks -- Semeka Randall, Tamika Catchings and Chamique Holdsclaw -- swarmed Georgia at the onset outscoring the Lady Bulldogs, 12-2. Georgia went to a zone, slowed UT's attack and pulled to with six, 23-17. After UT regrouped at a time-out, the Lady Vols pushed the lead out to 35-19 with 8:06 to go in the half. At the break, UT led 45-37. In the second stanza, UT opened by hitting its first five shots. The Lady Vols put together a 16-4 run to open second half play and with 15:05 to go in the game, the Lady Vols led 61-41. UT's lead would eventually stretch to 34 points. On the night, Holdsclaw led the Lady Vols in scoring with 25 points. She was joined in double-digits by Catchings with 17 points, Randall and Teresa Geter with 14 points each. Geter and Holdsclaw tied for high honors on the boards with seven each. UT outrebounded Georgia, 45-33, and connected on 58.8 percent of its field goal tries. The Lady Vols tossed in an incredible 78 points in the paint to just 42 for the Dawgs. UT held Georgia to its lowest point total (69) and worst field goal percentage of the season (.348).
LOOKING BACK A YEAR AGO
Last year at this time, the Lady Vols were 15-1 and had just defeated Kentucky, 98-60, in Knoxville.
McDIVITT STEPS UP
While junior point guard Kristen Ace Clement has been struggling of late, rookie back-up point April McDivitt has been picking up the slack as UTs quarterback. Against South Carolina, McDivitt dished out a career high eight assists in 24 minutes of action.
ADDED TELEVISION GAMES
The University of Tennessee's agreement with Comcast Sports has yielded four additional television games in January and February. UT's meeting at South Carolina, at Kentucky, at Ole Miss and at Mississippi State are now all slated for television. Former Lady Vol Michelle Marciniak will handle the color commentary while the Voice of the Vols, Bob Kesling, is scheduled to provide the play-by-play. The addition of four games to the television schedule gives the Lady Vols an all-time high of 21 regular season games on the tube.
PLEASE NOTE THIS GAME TIME CHANGE
Tennessee's game against the third-ranked N.C. State Wolfpack on Jan. 29 in Cleveland, Ohio, has been moved to a 2:30 p.m. tip time. The Lady Vols and the Pack will be the second game of a triple-header that day in Gund Arena. Surprisingly, television has not picked up the contest which will pit #2 versus #3.

800 AND COUNTING
Tennessee women's basketball traces its roots to back to 1903 but it wasn't until the 1907 season that Coach T.S. Myers led his bloomer-clad charges to the program's first victory. On Feb. 16, 1907, when his defensive-minded orange and white team hung a stinging defeat on Central, 28-0, no one could appreciate then what that first victory meant on The Hill. Now, fast-forward to the next century. Against Arkansas on Jan. 10, 2000, the Lady Vols notched the 800th all-time basketball victory in the history of Tennessee women's basketball.
TREY TRENDS-HIT ONE TODAY = TOTAL FOR 99
There are some interesting Tennessee trey trends as we enter the 2000 portion of the schedule. Last season in 34 games, UT was 83-255 (.325) from three-point land for the season. This year, Tennessee has already connected on 82 three-pointers (219 attempts). Lady Vol rookie Kara Lawson has led the trey assault already connecting on 36 treys (in 81 attempts). She is joined in the three barrage by Catchings (13-48), April McDivitt (12-27), Clement (6-22), and Tasheika Morris (6-14). Lawson, in just 15 games, has already eclipsed Kellie Jolly's trey total (32-85) for the entire 34 game, 1998-99 season.
THE ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE IS BACK
Through seven home games, the University of Tennessee leads the NCAA Women's Basketball Attendance Challenge (as of 1/10/00) with an average of 16,125 per home game. Just behind is Connecticut with 11,950 per home game. Rounding out the third spot is the Texas Tech with an average of 11,903 spectators per home game. Others in the top five are 4. Iowa State, 9,701 and 5. Purdue, 9,699. In 1998-99, Tennessee once again led the nation in attendance with an NCAA record 16,565 fans per game.
WE'LL FACE 11 CONFERENCES THIS SEASON
Tennessee has scheduled 28 games against 11 different conferences this season. Outside of the 14-game Southeastern Conference schedule, the Lady Vols will take on 10 other conferences in 14 games. UT plays two games each against teams from the Big East, Big 10, Conference USA and Pac 10. The Lady Vols will also take on teams from the Atlantic Coast, Atlantic 10, Big 12, Colonial Athletic, Ohio Valley, and Sun Belt.
RECORD VS. RANKED TEAMS
The game against Connecticut was the Lady Vols 393rd contest against a ranked opponent all-time. UT sports a 274-119 (.696) overall record against ranked foes since the polls began in 1976.
UT'S LAST LOSS TO AN UNRANKED TEAM?
When is the last time Tennessee lost to an unranked team? That would have been to Auburn on March 2 in the 1997 SEC Tournament.
OUR MEEK STORY
In 79 of Tennessee's last 86 games, one of the original Three Meeks (Chamique Holdsclaw, Tamika Catchings and Semeka Randall) was either the top scorer or rebounder for the Lady Vols. The exceptions were: Jan. 14, 2000 (Snow 24 points and seven rebounds), Jan. 8, 2000 (Michelle Snow 21 points), Jan.6, 2000 (Michelle Snow 22 points), Dec. 7, 1999 versus Memphis (Lawson 21 points), Nov. 19, 1999 versus UT-Martin (Kara Lawson 23 points and Michelle Snow nine rebounds), Dec. 6, 1998 versus Duke (Teresa Geter, 17 points and nine rebounds) and Dec. 7, 1997 versus Manhattan (Kyra Elzy 12 points and Geter 11 rebounds).
IN OVERTIME
The Lady Vols are 20-10 all-time in overtime games. The most OT games in a season was 1996-97, when the Lady Vols were 3-1 in overtime contests losing to Georgia, 94-93, and defeating Texas, 68-65, Vanderbilt, 92-79 and LSU, 100-99. Tennessee's 21 points in the extra stanza against Vanderbilt on Jan.19, 1997, was the most ever scored by the Lady Vols in a single overtime. The previous high-water mark was 18 points versus Colorado on Dec. 20, 1993.
100 POINT GAMES
Since 1974, the Lady Vols have gone over the century mark 62 times. This season, UT has hit the century mark four times in 12 games. Last season, UT recorded five 100-point games against St. Joseph's, UCLA, Georgia (1), Memphis, and Appalachian St.. Tennessee went over 100 points in an NCAA playoff game for the first time ever in 1993-94 with the win over North Carolina A&T, 111-37. The 1987-88 team hit triple digits in seven games leading the NCAA.
CURRENT LADY VOL STREAKS
The last time the Lady Vols lost at home was against Connecticut, 74-67, on Jan. 8, 2000 -- since then, the team has won one home game. The last time UT lost on the road was on Feb. 21, 1999 at LSU, 72-69, since then the team has won eight road games. The last time the Lady Vols lost on a neutral court was against Duke, 69-63, in the NCAA East Regional finals on Mar. 22, 1999. Since then, UT has not played on a neutral court.
UT HOLDS THE LONGEST POLL RANKING STREAK
Tennessee currently has the longest ranking streak in the AP Top 25 polls with 252 consecutive rankings. Tennessee has the most weekly rankings ever in the AP poll (395 weeks). According to hoops guru Mel Greenberg, UT is the only school to remain consistently in the poll during its 24 years.
AT LEAST 5000 IN THE HOUSE
The Lady Vols have played in front of at least 5000 fans in 129 consecutive games at home dating back to March 16, 1991.
BROKE THE STREAK AT HOME
The Lady Vols' 40-game consecutive home court winning streak which dated back to January 12, 1997 was snapped with the loss to Louisiana Tech on Nov. 14, 1999.
127 OF 132
The Tennessee Lady Vols have won 127 of its last 132 games at home in Thompson-Boling Arena dating back to Feb. 1, 1991. UT's five losses were to Louisiana Tech, Connecticut (twice), Stanford, and Georgia (OT).
HOME SWEET HOME
All-time at home UT is 328-33 (.910) -- since the 1974-75 season. All-time home losses (in the Summitt era) include: six in Alumni Gym from 1974-76; 18 in Stokely Athletics Center from 1976-87; and nine in Thompson-Boling Arena since 1987.
ON OUR WAY TO 200 WINS IN THOMPSON-BOLING
In 12 seasons since moving to TBA, the Lady Vols are 175-9 (.960) overall. The Lady Vols won their 100th game in Thompson-Boling Arena with the victory over Stanford on 12-1-94. The Lady Vols have rarely lost at home in the past decade. UT suffered two losses the first year in the new arena (12-2 overall), a 97-78 defeat to Texas on Dec. 9, 1987 and a 71-68 loss to Auburn exactly one month later on Jan. 9, 1988. The Lady Vols enjoyed a flawless home slate in 1988-89 with a 15-0 record.
