August 06, 1999 | Women's Basketball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee Lady Volunteer basketball coach Pat Summitt announced today that Teresa Geter was leaving the team.
"Teresa informed me today that she plans on transferring to another school. We'll do all that we can to help her with the transition," said Summitt.
Geter, a 6-3 junior center from Columbia, S.C., earned 27 starts in 67 games as a Lady Vol. During her 39-0 rookie campaign which culminated in an NCAA title, Geter broke a 12-year old Lady Vol school record for the most blocked shots in a single season with 93. She also led the Southeastern Conference in blocked shots from start to finish.
"After two years at UT, I feel like I need a change closer to home. I'm going to investigate my options and plan to transfer to a school in or near South Carolina. I had a prosperous career in my two years at Tennessee," said Geter.
As a sophomore, Geter played in 28 games with 18 starts averaging 5.9 ppg, 4.7 rpg and 1.6 bpg as the Lady Vols went 31-3 and just missed a fifth consecutive trip to the Final Four. As a rookie, she played in all 39 games with nine starts and averaged 6.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 2.3 bpg on UT's 1998 NCAA Championship team.
