Volunteers Touch Down in Tempe
December 26, 1999 | Football
Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer held a press conference at the airport shortly after the Vols' charter touched down in Arizona.
"We are pleased to be back in the Valley of the Sun where we have the finest hosts that you could want," Fulmer said. "We are in for a great football game between two teams that have won the last two national championships.
"We had good practices in Knoxville and we are eager to get back on the field tomorrow to resume work for a very challenging assignment. We hope to have offensive guard Fred Weary back at full speed for the remainder of the workouts after having limited work in Knoxville. Except for Billy Rattliff, our senior defensive tackle and captain, we expect to have everyone available for the game who was with us at the start of the season.
"We have fond memories of last year's game here against Florida State, which was the highlight of our undefeated season. We will stick pretty close to what we did last year in game preparations. Our main goal is to win the football game against an outstanding Nebraska team."
The Vols will hit the practice field Monday afternoon after some of the players visit nearby Maracopa County Hospital.
