TONIGHT'S GAME
The Lady Vols travel to the west coast for a two-game stand versus #22/23 Stanford and #4 UCLA. Tennessee's PAC 10 adventure starts out at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford campus where the Lady Vols have won one game in four meetings on the spring-loaded floor.
IN OUR LAST GAME
The #5 ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers notched its first win of the 1999-2000 season with a record-setting, 133-60, victory over Tennessee-Martin on Nov. 19 in Knoxville. The Lady Vols broke the 14-year old school record of 130 points versus Hawaii Pacific on Dec. 20, 1985 tallying a mind boggling 133 points. UT rookie Kara Lawson, in her first career start, broke the freshman record for most three-pointers in a game with five. The game was barely five minutes old when UT took a 17-2 lead over its cross-state sister school. Tennessee expanded its lead to 34-points, 41-7 with 7:21 showing on the clock in the first half. The Skyhawks trimmed UT's lead to just 58-26 at the half. After halftime, Tennessee exploded for a school-record 75 points in the second stanza eclipsing the old record of 71 points previously accumulated against UT-Martin on Feb. 13, 1979. All 13 players who dressed for the Lady Vols scored in the game led by Lawson's career high 23 points. Also in double-digits were Tamika Catchings with 15 points, Gwen Jackson 14 points, Semeka Randall 13 points, Michelle Snow a dozen points, and Niya Butts with 11 points. Snow paced UT's rebounders with nine boards. The Lady Vols connected on 58.8% of its shots and 50% of its treys. UT outrebounded Martin, 55-25, and claimed 19 steals while forcing 35 turnovers. UT scored a gaudy 84 points in the paint while the Skyhawks managed just 36.

Eighteen Lady Vol regular season games will be on television this year. Previously, UT appeared in a then-school record 17 regular season television appearances and 22 TV games overall during the 1996-97 season. Upcoming TV games include both contests on the West Coast swing to Stanford and UCLA. UT is 0-1 on TV this season.
ON THIS DAY
On Nov. 26th, the Lady Vols have produced a 5-2 record all-time. The Lady Vols are 4-1 when playing at home and 1-1 at neutral sites. Tennessee has never played an away game on this date. In the most recent game on Nov. 26, Tennessee defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay, 71-36 in Knoxville.
OUR SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
UT travels to Palo Alto, Calif., on Nov. 24 and will spend Thanksgiving Day dining in the Bay Area and practicing at #22/23 Stanford. The Lady Vols will meet the Cardinal on Nov. 26 at Maples Pavilion in a 7:30 p.m. PT tip-off on Fox Sports. The game will be aired in Knoxville on Fox Sports (Cable channel 19). Tennessee then travels to Los Angeles on Sat., Nov. 27, and plans to practice at Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus. The Lady Vols face the fourth-ranked Bruins on Sun., Nov. 28 in a 2:00 p.m. PT tip-off. Fox will once again have the telecast. Tennessee returns home late on Nov. 29 and will begin preparations to face the defending 1999 NCAA Champion Purdue Boilermakers in Knoxville on Dec. 2.
ROOKIES RISING
Already this season, two of the Lady Vols four rookies have found themselves in the starting line-up. Forward Gwen Jackson became just the seventh player all-time to earn a starting role in her very first game as a Lady Vol. Jackson responded with eight points and five rebounds in the season-opening loss to Louisiana Tech. Rookie guard Kara Lawson got the starting nod one game later and turned in a team high 23-point performance against UT-Martin. While having not started yet, rookies April McDivitt and Tasheika Morris have played some solid minutes for the Lady Vols.
ELITE COMPANY
When Pat Summitt started freshman forward Gwen Jackson against La Tech, it marked only the seventh time in her coaching career that a freshman started her very first game at Tennessee. The list of opening day rookie starters: Semeka Randall 1997, Kyra Elzy 1996, Chamique Holdsclaw 1995, Tiffani Johnson 1994, Bridgette Gordon and Sheila Frost 1985.
SEEMS LIKE WE DID THIS LAST YEAR
Last season, the Lady Vols played Stanford and UCLA in back-to-back games in Thompson-Boling Arena just before the Christmas holidays. The two PAC 10 teams drew a total of 37,389 spectators with 17,667 fans in the stands to see UT defeat Stanford, 98-62, and a crowd of 19,722 to see the Lady Vols beat UCLA, 100-77. In the game against UCLA, former Lady Vol All-American Chamique Holdsclaw went over 2500 career points and 1100 career rebounds.

THE SERIES
UT leads the series with Stanford, 10-4. Some of the classic clashes include: the Cardinal winning a one-point overtime affair in Palo Alto in Dec. 1991 (96-95); UT returning the favor on a neutral court in Hawaii in Dec. 1992 in a 74-73 overtime, and two weeks later (Dec.21), the Lady Vols recording a 84-79 victory in Knoxville. UT won for the first (and only time) at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford campus on Dec. 3, 1993, 81-75, and followed up that win a year later in Knoxville crushing the Cardinal, 105-69.
LAST MEETING AT STANFORD
The Tennessee Lady Vols traveled to San Jose, Calif., for a neutral --really home-away-from-home court meeting with the #11/10 ranked Stanford Cardinal on Nov. 29, 1997, and came away with an 88-70 victory. The game at the San Jose Arena, site of the 1999 NCAA Final Four, was a classic matchup of two old rivals. Stanford held the hot hand early and led by three points four times during the first half (last at 4:33, 37-34). The Lady Vols, despite missing a bunch of easy shots and lay-ups, led by as many as five points in the opening stanza. At the break, the Cardinal held a 45-44 lead after connecting on 57% of its shots. In the second half, UT's defense shut down the Stanford attack as the Lady Vols outscored the Cardinal 14-0 (58-45) in the first five minutes of the second stanza. UT's defense allowed Stanford just 25-second half points on 5-29 shooting. On the afternoon, UT was led in scoring by the Meeks as Chamique Holdsclaw tossed in 25 points, Tamika Catchings 20 points, and Semeka Randall 17 points and a then-career high 11 rebounds. UT outrebounded Stanford 53-34 and avenged losses from the last two seasons to the Cardinal.
GAME REPORT 3 - STANFORD
Tennessee and Stanford are meeting in Maples Pavilion for just the fifth time in the 14-game series. The two universities began playing the mutual admiration society games on Dec. 18, 1988 with Tennessee drawing the first blood, 83-60, in Knoxville.

LAST SEASON'S MEETING AGAINST STANFORD
The number two-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols returned home after a 16-day absence and hung a 98-62 defeat on the Stanford Cardinal in Knoxville, Tenn., on Dec. 19, 1998. From the opening tip, one could tell that these Lady Vols were glad to be playing in front of the home folks. UT jumped out to a 27-4 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game while the Lady Vol defense was causing Stanford to miss 15 of its first 16 shots. When UT hit a first half lull, sophomore Kristen Clement jump-started the offense to a 36-6 lead with six minutes left in the first half. Finally, after leading by as many as 40 points in the first half, Tennessee took a comfortable 53-15 lead into the locker room at the break. Stanford made up some ground in the second half and outscored UT, 47-45. However, the Lady Vols 17-4 spurt midway through the second half led to an 84-37 lead for UT. On the afternoon, four players reached double-figures including a 23 point effort from Tamika Catchings, a 17 point and 10 rebound afternoon from Chamique Holdsclaw, 16 points from Semeka Randall, and 14 points from Clement. UT shot 56% from the field and outrebounded Stanford by a 41-33 margin. The 36-point margin of victory for UT over Stanford matched a similar margin in 1994.
ONLY ONE WIN -- EVER - IN MAPLES PAVILION
Number one-ranked Tennessee claimed its only win ever at #9 ranked Stanford on Dec. 3, 1993, in Palo Alto, 81-75. Five Lady Vols tallied double-digits led by a pair of Nikki's -- then-junior Nikki McCray tossed in 18 points while senior Nikki Caldwell added 16 points. Triple additions of 13 points were delivered by Dana Johnson, Latina Davis, and Michelle Marciniak. UT shot a sizzling 62% in the first half and followed with an equally impressive 55% in the second stanza for a two-year high of 58% field goal shooting. The surprise of the game for the Lady Vols was a 7-11 night from three-point land (64%). Before this game, the Lady Vols had connected on only 1-20 three-pointers for the season. UT canned its first six treys before Tiffany Woosley missed midway through the second half. Stanford was led by Rachel Hemmer and Anita Kaplan's 16 points.

AP POLL NOTES
Tennessee is the only team to have been ranked every year for the last 24 years in the AP poll. Tennessee has appeared at least once per season over the poll's history.
LOOKING BACK A YEAR AGO
Last year at this time, the Lady Vols were 2-1 and had just defeated St. Joseph's, 108-63, in Knoxville.
COUNTDOWN TO 700 --
Lady Vol coach Pat Summitt is just four wins away from her 700th collegiate career victory. When she hits that magical mark, she will be just the second women's coach (ever) to record 700 wins. Hall of Famer Jody Conradt of Texas enters this season with 725 victories.
BROKE THE STREAK AT HOME
The Lady Vols 40-game consecutive home court winning streak which dated back to January 12, 1997 was snapped with the loss to Louisiana tech on Nov. 14.
SUMMITT'S WEEKLY TELECONFERENCE
The next coach Pat Summitt weekly teleconference (highlighting the upcoming games against Big 10 foes #19/20 Purdue and #25 Wisconsin) will be on Wed., Dec. 1 at 11:00 a.m. The media dial-in number is (865) 974-1000. Ask to be connected to the Pat Summitt teleconference. Her weekly teleconference will typically be held in this time slot unless there are travel conflicts. Please call the UT Media Relations Office weekly to confirm the teleconference.
LATE START
The late start of the game with the University of Tennessee at Martin, on Nov. 19 at 9:30 p.m. in the Thompson-Boling Arena, was necessitated due to the Southeastern Conference Volleyball Championships also being held on campus up the road at the Stokely Athletics Center. Although 15,606 tickets were sold to the event, only 6,386 fans managed to click through the turnstiles. The game was over at 11:15 p.m. - a little late for the tikes.
EARLY SIGNEES
The Tennessee Lady Vols completed a recruiting haul in the NCAA early signing period inking four players. Tennessee won an intense recruiting battle when they landed Ashley Robinson, the top post prospect in the nation. The Lady Vols signed its first in-state player, Courtney McDaniel from Bristol, Tenn., since the signing of home-grown recruits Kellie Jolly, Misty Greene and Brynae Laxton in 1995. The Lady Vols also dipped into Georgia for prized standouts LaToya Davis and Latasha Butts. Interestingly enough, Butts' aunt, Valerie Freeman, played for the Lady Vols from 1983-85. The signees: Courtney McDaniel, 6-1, C-F, Bristol, Tenn./Tennessee High (2,038 career points, 1,230 career rebounds), LaToya Davis, 6-0, F, Forsyth, Ga./Mary Persons H.S. (Career Avg. 28.1 ppg and 20.6 rpg), Ashley Robinson, 6-5, C, Grand Prairie, Texas/South Grand Prairie H.S. WBJ Announces 1999 Coaches Survey Results
The Women's Basketball Journal recently asked 75 of the top Division I head coaches a series of questions, and their responses definitely had a Big Orange flavor. Tennessee was tabbed as the top contender for the 2000 NCAA championship, UT's Mickie DeMoss was named the top assistant coach in the country, and the one coach our respondents most wanted to converse with was Lady Vol leader Pat Summitt.
Even more impressively, the 1997-98 edition of the Lady Vols was chosen as the greatest collegiate women's basketball team ever. Tennessee has won six NCAA titles under Summitt, and three of her teams received votes as the best squad ever. The 1997-98 Lady Vols, however, stood above the crowd.

OUR MEEK STORY
In 72 of Tennessee's last 75 games, one of the original Three Meeks (Chamique Holdsclaw, Tamika Catchings and Semeka Randall) was either the top scorer or rebounder for the Lady Vols. The three exceptions were: Nov. 19 versus UT-Martin (Kara Lawson 23 points and Michelle Snow nine rebounds), Dec. 6, 1998 versus Duke (Teresa Geter, 17 points and nine rebounds) and Dec. 7, 1997 versus Manhattan (Kyra Elzy 12 points and Geter 11 rebounds).
CATCHINGS HONORED IN BOSTON
Junior All-American forward Tamika Catchings, who is hearing impaired, was honored by the Reynolds Society of the world-famous Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary on Nov. 5 in Boston. Catchings was a recipient of the Reynolds Society Achievement Award which annually goes to an individual who has overcome hearing, vision or voice loss and who has distinguished themselves and provided inspiration to others. Catchings received her award based on her strength of character and outstanding achievements as a scholar and an athlete. The awards ceremony also recognized the 175th anniversary of the Infirmary.
OUR HEISMAN WINNER
Lady Vol sophomore guard Sarah Edwards has been invited to the New York Downtown Athletic Club for the Heisman presentation on Dec. 10. Edwards is a past recipient (1997) of the Wendy's High School Heisman for scholastic excellence. She'll be on hand this year to help present that award.
IN OVERTIME
The Lady Vols are 20-10 all-time in overtime games. The most OT games in a season was 1996-97, when the Lady Vols were 3-1 in overtime contests losing to Georgia, 94-93, and defeating Texas, 68-65, Vanderbilt, 92-79 and LSU, 100-99. Tennessee's 21 points in the extra stanza against Vanderbilt on Jan.19, 1997, was the most ever scored by the Lady Vols in a single overtime. The previous high-water mark was 18 points versus Colorado on Dec. 20, 1993.
100 POINT GAMES
Since 1974, the Lady Vols have gone over the century mark 59 times. Last season, UT recorded five 100-point games against St. Joseph's, UCLA, Georgia (1), Memphis, and Appalachian St.. The Lady Vols enjoyed a flawless home slate in 1988-89 with a 15-0 record. UT almost duplicated the record a year later but dropped a one-point decision to Louisiana Tech, 59-58 (again on Dec. 9), and turned in a 14-1 showing in 1989-90. In 1990-91, the Lady Vols (15-1 at home) went down in defeat to Georgia, 81-74 on Jan. 28, 1991. From that point, until UT lost to Connecticut on Jan. 6,1996 (59-53), the Lady Vols won a NCAA record 69 consecutive games. In 1996-97, the Lady Vols went 13-2 at home after losing back-to-back games to Georgia and Stanford in December. It marked the first time the team had lost consecutive games in the Arena. In the flawless 1997-98 campaign, the Lady Vols were 16-0 at home. Tennessee finished with a 14-0 mark at home in 1998-99. This year, UT is 1-1 with a loss to Louisiana Tech.
