Tennessee Soccer Complex
The University of Tennessee has always been highly supportive of the addition of women's soccer to its athletics docket, as evidenced by the Tennessee Soccer Complex. The facility includes two fields for the exclusive use of the women's soccer program.
The entire complex, a $1.1 million dollar project, features two 80x120-yard fields with less than a one percent crown on each and television standard lights on the game field. The fields are sod with Bermuda grass and boast total field irrigation. The raised press box includes phone lines, a public address system and the controls to an electronic scoreboard.
Spectator seating is on aluminum bleachers positioned on concrete, with capacity at 1,200. Fans will enjoy the convenience of permanent restroom facilities, a souvenir stand and concessions located adjacent to the bleachers. Parking areas surround three sides of the facility. Last fall, construction was completed on a locker room building, which now houses facilities for the Lady Vol soccer program, visiting teams and referees.
Opening day for the complex was Aug. 30, 1996, when the Lady Vols drew a standing-room-only crowd of 2,631 for their inaugural match against Chattanooga. Overall, Tennessee has compiled a 21-14 mark on its home field, including a 6-4 mark last season.
The Orange and White will host a total of 12 games in their fifth season, including James Madison, Oregon and Xavier in the third annual First Tennessee Bank Lady Vol Soccer Classic over the weekend of September 22-24. All seats will be general admission, with tickets slated at $4 for adults and children. UT students are admitted free with a valid student I.D.
