Martin's Four TD Passes Key as Vols Fly Past Houston

Tee Martin threw four TD passes and Jamal Lewis had a 59-yard TD run as the Vols took the measure of the visiting Cougars in the first game between the schools since 1965, only the third overall.
Martin's touchdown passes went to Cedrick Wilson, Lewis, Shawn Bryson, and Peerless Price. Rookie quarterback Burney Veazey found fellow rookie tight end John Finlayson for a fourth quarter score.
The Vols led, 21-0, at the half and yielded a solitary Cougar score in the third period on the way to a 35-point triumph. The Vols had another TD called back due to penalty and ended the night offensively on the Cougars' 1-yard line.
The Vols had 334 rushing yards, led by Lewis' 135 and added 255 passing yards. Martin completed 14 of 19 passes for 234 yards on the night,
Eric Westmoreland, Raynoch Thompson, Chris Ramseur and Deon Grant were each in on seven tackles. The Vols had eight tackles for loss and three sacks.

- Jeremaine Copeland became the 11th Vol to pass the 1,000-yard receiving mark, with two catches for 33 yards.
- Tennessee's first three scoring drives each exceeded 70 yards.
- Raynoch Thompson (-10), Roger Alexander (-2) and Darwin Walker (-5) each had sacks.
- Chris Ramseur and Corey Terry had two tackles for loss (-3 each) and were joined by Al Wilson (-1), Thompson (-1), Deon Grant (-2) and Shaun Ellis (-9).
- Judd Granzow and Terry each caused a fumble.
- The Vols are now 2-1 against Houston, losing in 1953 and winning in 1965 and 1998.
