Homecoming a Happy Affair as Vols Down UAB, 37-13
November 07, 1998 | Football
Tennessee jumped to a 10-0 first quarter lead and moved on from there to a 37-13 Homecoming victory in its first meeting with UAB. The Vols thus became the first Tennessee team to reach 8-0 since 1956.
The Vols also ascended to the No. 1 spot in both polls following an Ohio State loss to Michigan State. It was the first time for the Vols to be in the top spot since Nov. 13, 1956.
Tee Martin scored on a 1-yard run and threw a 28-yard TD pass to Cedrick Wilson. The two Travises—Henry and Stephens—scored on runs of 18 and 12, respectively.
It was a day for the linebackers, as Al Wilson had 11 tackles, Raynoch Thompson 10 and Eric Westmoreland added eight. Westmoreland also added two tackles for loss (-16).
