Tennessee Wins its Fourth in a Row Over the Tide
October 24, 1998 | Football
Tee Martin and Travis Henry each scored twice on short runs, and Peerless Price had a 100-yard kickoff return to pace the Vols to a 35-18 victory over Alabama before the third-largest crowd in Neyland Stadium history (107,289).
Price's TD run came moments after the Tide had closed the margin to 21-11 and seemed to have the game's momentum on its side. It was a dramatic turning point in the game between the two ancient rivals.
The Vols took the opening kickoff of the game in for a score, with Martin scoring on a 1-yard run. Martin added a 5-yard run to give the Vols a 14-3 halftime lead. Price's TD run came after Alabama had cut the Vol lead to 14-11 in the third quarter. Henry, who gained 113 yards on 22 carries, scored twice on short runs in the fourth quarter.
Raynoch Thompson led the way for the Vols defensively with 11 tackles and two assists. Al Wilson added six tackles and a pair of assists. Defensive End DeAngelo Lloyd had five tackles, with two for lost yardage and a sack.
