A longtime leader on the Tennessee Athletics external team is Associate Athletics Director of Marketing & Fan Experience Jimmy Delaney. The 2022-23 academic year is the two-time Tennessee graduate’s 17th as a full-time staffer at his alma mater.
The Kenosha, Wisconsin, native’s association with Tennessee Athletics dates to his arrival on campus as a freshman in the fall of 1997.
Delaney’s experience as an innovative marketer and team builder is today leveraged through his oversight of Tennessee’s fan experience and Internet communications units. A member of the Tennessee Athletics’ senior staff, his expertise in brand management, licensing, sales strategies, fan communication, campaign advertising and data maximization continue to elevate UT’s reputation as a trendsetter on the collegiate landscape.
He has devised and executed sales strategies leading to more than $30 million in ticket sales. Gameday fan experience and in-venue video production across all sports also have steadily evolved under Delaney’s influence. And Big Orange fans are familiar with his well-coordinated military flyovers and special guest appearances during momentum-shifting moments at Vols and Lady Vols games.
He works closely with UT’s multimedia rights holder, LEARFIELD/The Vol Network, as well as corporate and community partners to optimize athletic revenues and engage with key stakeholders. He is Tennessee Athletics’ official liaison with the VolShop, the university’s Trademark and Licensing Office, the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) and the Pride of the Southland Marching Band.
Delaney’s fingerprints also cover Tennessee’s retail engagement efforts associated with official apparel partner Nike.
Vol Nation consistently experiences Delaney’s difference-making impact through recurring initiatives such as the Big Orange Caravan, Fan Day, National Signing Day Celebrations and Checker Neyland/Checker TBA as well as specialty events like the Summer of Smokey, Big Orange Connect, Battle at Bristol and more.
During the development of Tennessee Athletics' comprehensive five-year strategic plan, Rise Glorious—which was published in July of 2022—Delaney served on the Mission, Vision & Values Committee. He also was instrumental in the 2021 launch of the My All Campaign, a $500 million comprehensive athletics fundraising initiative.
He also has led planning and execution for comprehensive, interactive promotions that include Life is Orange & White and Neyland 100, along with the creation and launch of AllVols.com.
His membership in NACMA dates to 2004, and his fan experience staff was a finalist for NACMA Marketing Team of the Year in 2019.
As an undergraduate student intern in Tennessee’s women’s athletics department, Delaney worked with all Lady Vol teams and gained invaluable experience collaborating closely with legendary basketball coach Pat Summitt on various promotional initiatives.
With a passion for community outreach, Delaney has served on the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of East Tennessee Board of Directors and is a member of the Visit Knoxville Sports Advisory Council. In 2019, he was instrumental in the university’s efforts to support a Florida youth’s “STOMP Out Bullying” initiative that ultimately raised $1 million in proceeds and elevated anti-bullying awareness nationwide.
Delaney received his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management in 2002 before earning a master’s in Sport Studies in 2004—both from Tennessee.
He and his wife, Jackie, have two daughters, Maddie and Marleigh.
