Chris King joined Tennessee Athletics in Spring 2025 and currently serves as assistant director for operational efficiency. In his role, King works closely with Chris Johnson, senior associate athletics director and assistant provost, to help set and execute top priorities within the Thornton Athletics Student Life Center. He supports strategic projects, coordinates operational tasks and helps ensure alignment across key internal objectives.
Prior to his role within Tennessee Athletics, King served as an assistant director for academic advising in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee. Before arriving in Knoxville, he spent two years working in operations for the construction company Interior Logic Group and previously served as an academic advisor at the College of Charleston and Virginia Tech for more than seven years. Along the way, Chris also was highly involved in Uncommon Sports Group (formerly Managers On A Mission), serving as chairman of the board of directors and helping with operations for more than eight years.

Originally from Hillsville, Virginia, Chris earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Tech. He was also a graduate assistant for the Virginia Tech football team in 2007 and 2008, contributing to back-to-back ACC Championships.

Chris and his wife, Morgann, live in South Knoxville with their two sons, Malachi and Samson.
