A current member of the UT roster, Joaquin Vargas secured his second consecutive Olympics appearance for his home country of Peru. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, he competed in the 200 and 400 free for Peru. Vargas boasts four LCM Peruvian national records and is a Peruvian national champion in the 100, 200 and 400 free. In addition to his LCM records, he holds four SCM records and currently owns the fifth-fastest 500 free time in UT history.

2024-25 - SENIOR
- Top times from season: 200 Free (1:34.99), 500 Free (4:16.29), 200 back (1:44.41).
- At the 2025 SEC Championships...
- Swam as part of the 800 free relay team that posted a time of 6:17.91, taking eighth place at the meet and fourth in school history.
- Competed in the 200 free, 500 free, and 200 back prelims, placing 37th, 39th, and 37th respectively.
- Was a member of the team that won the 400 free relay with a time of 2:53.79 against Duke (1/31-2/1/25).
- Competed in three individual events and two relays at the Tennessee Invite (11/19-22/24).
2023-24 - JUNIOR
- Top times from season: 100 free (44.94), 200 Free (1:34.99), 500 Free (4:20.42) and 200 back (1:45.33).
- Swam in one relay and three individual events during his time at the SEC Championships (2/19-24/24), competing in the 800 free relay (6:19.04), 200 free (1:35.03), 500 free (4:21.35) and 200 back (1:47.50).
- Earned a second-place finish in the 500 free, posting a time of 4:20.42 in a dual meet against No. 7 Georgia (1/20/24).
- Was a member of the team that won the 800 free relay with a time of 6:19.77 and also individually placed fourth in the 200 free at the Tennessee Invite (11/15-17/23).
- Tallied a second-place finish in the 400 free with a time of 3:56.00 and a third-place finish in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:50.23, to open the season in a LCM dual meet against No. 12 Louisville (10/12/23).
2022-23 - SOPHOMORE
- Top times from season: 100 free (45.04), 200 Free (1:34.49), 500 Free (4:15.17), 200 back (1:46.01).
- Placed second in the 200 free (1:36.71) and the 500 free (4:24.46) against Georgia (1/21/23).
- Posted the fastest finish in the 200 free (1:37.13) and the 500 free (4:27.10) during the meet against Missouri (1/7/23).
- During the Tennessee Invite (11/17-20/22), posted the fastest times in the 200 free (1:34.49) and 500 free (4:15.35).
- Notched a first place finish in the 500 free vs Louisville (10/20/22) touching the wall in 4:24.55.
- Won the 500 free with at time of 4:22.69 and placed second in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:37.17 against NC State (10/14-15/22).
- Swept the mid-distance freestyle events against UNC Wilmington (10/1/22), winning the 200 free (1:38.88) and 500 free (4:30.51).
2021-22 - FRESHMAN
- Top times from season: 100 free (44.65), 200 free (1:35.52), 500 free (4:17.54), 1000 free (9:16.33), 1650 free (15:19.36).
- Joined the team in January as a midyear enrollee.
- Member of Tennessee's CSCAA National Invitational Championship squad that won the title, winning three medals during the meet.
- Won gold in the 800 free relay with a meet-record time of 6:28.36; Also brought home silver in the 500 free (4:19.43) and 200 free (1:35.52) while competing in the finals in two other events.
- Helped the Vols to their best SEC Championships finish since 2001, tying for second.
- Scored 19 points overall for the team.
- Placed eighth in the 800 free relay (6:21.01), swimming in the second leg and finished 11th place in the 500 free (4:17.54) and 22nd in the 1650 free (15:19.36).
- His times in the 500 free (7th) and 800 free relay (10th) both ranked inside the top 10 in program history.
- Made his collegiate debut at the SEC Championships.
PERSONAL
- 2020 Tokyo Olympian for Peru.
- Earned podium finishes in the 200 free (1st/1:45.68), 400 free (1st/3:43.32) and 100 back (2nd/53.72), setting the Peruvian National Record in all three short-course events, during the 2021 Puerto Rico International Swim.
- Also owned the long-course national records in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free and 100 back when he arrived at Tennessee.
- Competed with Azura Florida Aquatics before going to college.
- Won three gold medals at Pembroke Pines 18&U Winter Championships in 2020 and won a gold medal in the 400 free during the 2021 Speedo Winter Championships.
