Joey Reilman
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
VFL and program record holder Joey Reilman has joined the 2021-22 Tennessee swimming and diving staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
“We are really fortunate to be able to bring Joey Reilman onto our coaching staff this year,” said director of swimming and diving Matt Kredich. “Joey embodies all of the traits that we strive to uphold and become as Tennessee Volunteers. As an athlete here, Joey was relentlessly competitive, academically driven, as student of the sport, a selfless teammate and member of the community, and courageous leader. As a coach, he brings that same competitiveness and passion for the sport to the pool deck, as well as a unique ability to connect with anyone on a personal level. He’s a fantastic addition to team.”
Reilman, who swam for the Vols from 2015-19, owns the Tennessee school record in the 200 freestyle (1:32.35) and the 100 backstroke (45.35) as an individual, and he was part of UT’s fastest relays in the 400 and 800 freestyles. In total, he holds 16 times as an individual and as part of a relay that rank in the top 10 in Tennessee history. Seven of those marks are in the top two in the record books.
“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to be back on deck as a volunteer assistant this season for Tennessee Swimming & Diving,” said Reilman. “I love this program and the people who comprise it, and I look forward to serving this group each day as we pursue excellence. In my role, I try to be a positive presence on deck, share the knowledge I’ve learned over the years and be a bridge between the athletes and coaches.”
The six-time CSCAA All-American honoree won gold in the 200 backstroke during the 2019 SEC Championships to earn first team All-SEC status. During that same meet, he also brought home silver in the 200 free and bronze in the 100 back and 200 and 400 free relays.
Reilman earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and is currently pursuing a master’s in systems engineering.
