Our dance team program began in 1987 and placed second in the nation at the (2000) UDA Nationals held at the Walt Disney World Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The UT Dance Team is committed to presenting quality dance performances showcasing a variety of styles, from pom to funk to jazz. 2004-2005 Dance Team | | Our training program includes cardiovascular, strength and dance technique classes. Performance avenues include home football games, men's home basketball games, pep rallies and the UDA national competition. One purpose of the tryout is to select a group who possess the best mastery of pom, jazz, ballet and skills. A second purpose is to determine the best representatives for the University of Tennessee. During the tryouts, a panel of coaches and specialists in the field of jazz and ballet will make cuts until the final team is selected. The coaching staff strongly encourages a basic understanding of ballet and jazz technique. This will include proper body alignment and basic movement vocabulary in ballet and jazz.
