A rising junior from Winter Garden, Florida, Vereen is coming off a sophomore season in which he appeared in all 13 games for the Vols. He finished the year with 24 total tackles -- 15 solo and nine assisted. He also recorded 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and three quarterback hurries. His most noteworthy game of the 2014 season came against Ole Miss when he posted a career-high six tackles, 2.5 TFLs, and 1.5 sacks. Born this day in 1995, Vereen is 20 years old today.Â
VFL Walker was a junior captain on the 1998 national championship team. He posted 46 tackles and six sacks for a defense that gave up less than 100 yards rushing per game during the Vols' run to the national title. He was named All-SEC by the Associated Press the following season. He opted to leave Rocky Top a year early and put together a 10 year pro career in the NFL. His most notable professional stop came with the Philadelphia Eagles -- a franchise with which he spent seven seasons and helped to a Super Bowl XXIX berth. Walker is 38 today.
Lastly, we wish a happy birthday for former All-SEC hurdler Benson. A native of Las Vegas, Benson ran for two seasons at Tennessee after transferring from Central Arizona College. He was a seven-time SEC scorer, making his mark in the hurdles and the relays. In 2012, he was named the Indoor Vol Most Valuable Track Athlete and was a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Happy birthday Corey, Darwin, and Terry!
