Tennys Sandgren kept his bid alive for a sixth ITF Futures title, moving into the quarterfinals of the Chico (Calif.) Futures with a straight-set victory Thursday.Â
Sandgren beat Shane Vinsant 6-1, 6-4 to advance to Friday's quarterfinals where he will face fifth-seeded Fritz Wolmarans.
In Italy: Former Vol Matteo Fago made his first career quarterfinal Wednesday, beating two top-400 players in the main draw after playing his way through qualifying at a $15,000 Futures in Padova, Italy.
Fago beat No. 314 Daniele Giorgini 2-6, 6-4, 4-2 ret. in the opening round and got past No. 399 Moritz Baumann 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 16. He lost to Guillermo Carry 2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the quarterfinals Thursday. He is scheduled to play another Futures in Italy next week.
