Rubin Williams, who ran at UT from 2005-08 and was a 16-time All-American for Tennessee, joined Jeremy Dodson, Perrisan White and Monzavous Edwards in posting a time of 39.19 to win their heat in the semifinal round of the 4x100-meter relay at Telmex Athletics Stadium. St. Kitts & Nevis was second in 39.31, while Brazil was third in 39.44. The final will be held at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT) on Friday.
In the finals of the women's 1500 meters, former Lady Vol Jackie Areson, who competed for the Big Orange from 2006-10, wound up 11th in four minutes, 34.23 seconds. Adriana Munoz of Cuba won the gold medal with a time of 4:26.09.
