On the heels of a doubles tournament title a week ago in Toronto, Williams and Sandgren have cruised through the draw in Markham. They picked up their third straight-set win, beating Canadians Samuel Monette and Filip Peliwo 6-1, 6-3.
The Vol duo will face Canadians Milan Pokrajac and Peter Polansky in the finals.
In second-round singles play, Sandgren lost to top-seeded Roman Borvanov of Moldova 6-4, 6-2, and Williams fell to seventh-seeded Polansky 6-2, 6-2.
In California: John-Patrick Smith advanced to the quarterfinals of the Costa Mesa Tennis Classic in California, beating former Sacramento State star Kiryl Harbatsiuk 7-5, 6-4. He faces fifth-seeded Artem Sitak of New Zealand on Friday.
In doubles, Smith and Ben Rogers lost 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to former Vol Adam Hubble, who is playing this week with Daniel Cox.
