Stanback is considered one of the most productive tailbacks in school history after rushing for 1,730 career yards through three seasons from 1971-73. UT won 28 games over his career on Rocky Top, including victories in the Liberty Bowl and Astro Bluebonnet Bowl. A native of Kannapolis, North Carolina, Stanback recorded 890 rushing yards as a junior in 1972, breaking the school's single-season rushing record that stood for 21 years. His mark would last until 1983. He was drafted in the fifth round of the 1972 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals and went on to play five years with the Atlanta Falcons.Â
