As the 2013 Major League Baseball season gets underway, six former Tennessee players have opened the year on the active roster for a big-league club.Â
Last year's National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey will get the Opening Day start for his new team, having been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays during the offseason. Catching him will be another former Vol in J.P. Arencibia.Â
Elsewhere in the American League, Luke Hochevar and Julio Borbon are on the 25-man rosters for the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers, respectively.Â
For the 16th consecutive season, Todd Helton will be in the Opening Day lineup for the Colorado Rockies. That is the longest streak by any active Major Leaguer, as is the 13-game Opening Day hit streak he brings into today's game.Â
Coming off a season in which he won the NL Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Awards for third basemen, Chase Headley will open the season on the disabled list for the San Diego Padres with a broken thumb.
In addition to those six players, former Vols Yan Gomes (Cleveland Indians) and Deunte Heath (Chicago White Sox) will open the season on the 40-man roster for Major League Clubs.
