The USTA, the national governing body of tennis, announced the men's wild cards Tuesday afternoon with two qualifying wild cards going to Rhyne Williams and Tennys Sandgren for the second consecutive season. The All-Americans from the 2011 squad had barely missed the cutoff for the qualifying draw.
Thanks to the points from winning the Winnetka Challenger in July, former Vol John-Patrick Smith will be playing US Open qualifying.Â
Qualifying begins Tuesday, Aug. 21. The Vols would have to win three matches to advance to the main draw and a $23,000 paycheck.Â
