Herrington Earns Runner-Up Finish at 125th U.S. Amateur
August 17, 2025 | Men's Golf
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Tennessee sophomore golfer Jackson Herrington capped off a historic week at the 125th U.S. Amateur with a runner-up finish.Â
With the finish, Herrington ties for the best finish at the event in program history. He is the third Vol golfer to reach the finals (Eric Rebmann, 1987; Oliver Goss, 2013). Â
"I got through a lot of people this week, and it was tough," said Herrington. "I proved to myself I could do it."
By way of qualifying for the final match, Herrington has earned a spot in both the 2026 Masters Tournament, as well as the 2026 U.S. Open.
After a long week of grinding it out on the golf course through the semifinals, Herrington lost in the finals of the U.S. Amateur championship match against Mason Howell.Â
With exemption into two of golf's major tournaments in 2026, Herrington joins his teammate Lance Simpson as UT golfers to play in a major championship under head coach Brennan Webb.Â
Herrington and the Vols will tee off their season in less than a month, opening with the Visit Knoxville Collegiate at Tennessee National Golf Course, which runs from Sept. 5-7.
