March 01, 2025 | Track & Field
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Lady Vol duo of Myreanna Bebe and Layla Anderson struck gold and silver in the women's 60-meter hurdles final, respectively, highlighting six medal-winning performances for Tennessee track & field on the third and final day of the 2025 SEC Indoor Championships at the R.A. Fasken Indoor Track & Field Facility.
Bebe clocked a lifetime-best of 7.95 seconds on her way to the conference title, claiming Tennessee's third SEC crown in the event all-time and first for the Lady Vols since 2009. The graduate student from Orlando, Florida, tied the collegiate lead for 2025 and improved her mark as the No. 2 performer in school history. Additionally, her time ranks tied for 17th on the 2025 world list.
Anderson secured her silver medal after turning in a personal-best time of 7.98, becoming the third Lady Vol to ever break eight seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time sits third nationally and 24th in the world for 2025. The Portsmouth, Virginia, native had a spectacular conference meet, also earning a podium finish in the 60-meter dash after clocking a time of 7.18 in Saturday's final – placing third to give the Lady Vols three consecutive seasons with a medalist in the SEC women's 60-meter final.
Senior pole vaulter Sarah Schmitt also won silver at the SEC Indoor Championships for the second year in a row after clearing a personal-best height of 4.46m (14-7.5) to finish second at the meet. Her leap broke her own school record and likely clinched her qualification to the NCAA Indoor Championships, currently ranking 10th in the country this season.
The Big Orange capped the meet with back-to-back third place finishes in the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays. The Vol squad of Andrew Brown, Harry Barton, Rickey Williams III and Jevon Williams clocked a season-best time of 3:05.16, while the Lady Vol quartet of Brianna White, Esther Joseph, Cydney Wright and Javonya Valcourt turned in a mark of 3:27.85. Williams and Valcourt provided the fastest splits for the teams on the anchor leg, running 46.11 and 50.86 respectively to help the Vols earn hardware.
In the team standings, Tennessee finished sixth on the women's side with 47 points and seventh on the men's with 38 points.
