BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time this season, Tennessee freshman Bennett Greene earned SEC Men's Diver of the Week accolades after impressive performances at a pair of recent diving invites.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native won three events, recorded two personal-best scores and earned a spot on UT's top-10 leaderboard during the Auburn and Georgia Diving Invitationals. It's the third time overall this season Greene has been recognized by the conference office, as he also won SEC Freshman of the Week honors once.
At the Auburn Diving Invite, Greene won the 1-meter competition thanks to a career-high mark of 384.40, eclipsing 67 points on three of his dives. The effort moved him into ninth place in the Vols' record book. He went on to take second (362.40) on 3-meter and 13th on platform.
At the Georgia Diving Invite, Greene swept both springboard events and finished fourth on platform. His top performance came during the 3-meter prelims, when we notched a career-best score of 414.35. He went on to win the event with a 399.25 effort and completed the springboard sweep with a 378.30 on 1-meter.
Greene has now won six of his 11 individual events this season and has finished inside the top four of a competition all but once. He has three straight wins on 1-meter, and he's tallied three victories on 3-meter.
This marks the fourth season in a row during which a Vol has earned multiple SEC Diver of the Week honors.
Up next, Tennessee swimming & diving returns to action next Saturday, Jan. 11, for a dual meet against SEC foe Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Competition begins at 12 p.m. ET.
