Crooks Caps Olympic Run with 50 Free Final, Walshe Earned Spot in 200 IM Semifinal

PARIS – Jordan Crooks (Cayman Islands) earned a top-eight finish and Ellen Walshe (Ireland) competed in her third individual event of the meet to highlight day seven of the Olympic Games for Tennessee swimming.

Crooks opened Friday's evening session in the 50 free final. He clocked a 21.64 effort to finish eighth overall, concluding his time in Paris. Throughout his Olympic debut, Crooks finished inside the top 16 in both of his sprint freestyle events. He broke a Cayman Islands National Record in the 50 free, and he became the first swimmer ever from the country to earn a spot in an Olympic final.

After clocking a time of 2:11.81 in prelims, Walshe secured a spot in the 200 IM semifinals, where she took 13th behind a mark of 2:11.35. Making her second Olympic appearance, Walshe enjoyed a strong showing in Paris across multiple events. She swam three individual events, which was the most of any Tennessee swimmer in the games. She was a finalist in the 400 IM, taking eighth overall, and she also placed 22nd in the 100 fly.

In the men's 100 fly prelims on Friday, Kayky Mota made his Olympic debut for Brazil. He placed 22nd overall after notching a season-best time of 52.11.

The penultimate day of swimming for the Olympics will feature Ireland's Mona McSharry and Netherland's Kira Toussaint competing in the 4x100 medley relay at 6:52 a.m. ET.
